“not as good as expected”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 18, 2013

This 4 star hotel looked good when booked for a one night stay. A superior room was good with huge bathroom and separate drssing area. Furnishings were good with a comfortable bed.
Problems arose during the night when the night porter entered the next room hourly to check on a radiator leak. this kept us awake.
Breakfast was disappointing with poor service and poor quality products. This was served in the restaurant located in the basement. The floor was dirty from previous diners or from the night before - not too sure. I am glad we did not eat dinner here as it was a touch depressing.

Location was good - taking 10-15 minutes to walk to Princess st.
Plenty restaurants nearby.

The Bruntsfield is in the nicest area, with lots of independent shops, wineries, eateries - all offering a very high end service and product in whatever they do. Morningside is the loveliest place, quiet genteel without being snobby in my view and The Bruntsfield is the epitome of old world charm and elegance, without losing the service and requirement for both business and leisure requirements.
I have stayed in several rooms, all very clean, well appointed and everything I needed. Beds sooo comforable. As always tend to be a bit hot... I was there on business and would certainly come back for some leisure time. The car park is tight, and don't forget to pick up a permit for parking so you aren't clamped! Food offer excellent too by the way..

Room Tip: There are lots of levels so those less active may have challenges, although there is a lift

Stayed here with a friend Saturday night after Christmas shopping in Edinburgh. We were really happy with the hotel as all staff were very welcoming and attentive, which was so nice after such a busy and rather tiring day. The classic twin room/ ensuite was very clean and a good size with comfortable beds. Peaceful area ensured a good night's sleep too. We ate in the Bistro and were very pleased with the standard of the food and the swift, friendly service from all staff. Breakfast was also excellent. I would definitely stay again. Great location too as it's easy to walk into the city centre from there.

Another comfortable stay at our favourite Edinburgh hotel. Such good value for money and such good friendly service. Enjoyed the meal on Tuesday evening. They even served my melon for starters and fruit salad for dessert even though it wasn't on the dinner menu. The homemade shortbread at reception is always handy for a cup of tea in the room.

We went to Edinburgh as a birthday weekend for the mrs. The hotel is about 20min walk from the center but there are regular buses from just outside the hotel. The staff were great and the room was clean and .... Huge. Really tall. Downstairs bar was really good, we went late at not bu there were still a few people about, nice and quiet for a drink before bed. The breakfast was great, haggis is awesome. Nuff said. - will defo retur.

I stay here from time to time for work and everytime I am given very warm welcome from all the staff - from reception to bar staff to breakfast staff to cleaners.
Last time I stayed I got one of the newer rooms but even the rooms that haven't been refurbished are more than acceptable. Rooms are on the large size and some have views of the castle.
The bar is warm and friendly and the staff are knowledgable - they suggested I try a Scottish Gin Caorunn - and I am now hooked. Breakfast is lovely with a lot of choice served with a smile.
In summary, a warm, welcoming hotel in a handy but quiet location. Highly recommended.
