From the moment we (me, my husband and his parents) arrived and were welcomed with tea and cakes to the moment we reluctantly departed, we loved our stay at Elmview. The rooms are beautiful and spacious. Heated towel racks and toiletries in the bathrooms, free Wi-Fi, brandy, snacks, tea and milk in the hidden mini fridge, reading books, maps, guidebooks and Elmview's own guide to the area for restaurants and attractions scattered about the room. We stayed for only two nights and wished we could have spent our entire vacation here. Robin and Nici are wonderful, knowledgeable hosts, enthusiastic about their city. I got sick and spent most of our stay in the room, my only solace being my beautiful surroundings. My husband regaled me with a list of all the amazing homemade breakfast food I was missing - haggis, fresh fruit, juices, eggs benedict, blueberry pancakes. I did manage some of the fruit - strawberries and mangos with yogurt which was fresh, sweet and delicious. It's a bit of walk to the Royal Mile for those of us from car oriented communities like Los Angeles not to used to walking from place to place, but doable and the bus stop is very close by along with tasty restaurants. We don't know when we'll be back in Scotland, but when we are, we know we'll be staying at Elmview.

We found Elmview here on Trip Advisor when researching for a place to stay in Edinburgh at the end of a two week tour of the UK. We had stayed at wide range of B&Bs during the course of our trip but Elmview was definitely one of my favorites.

Nici and Robin made us feel very welcome. The rooms were spacious, comfortable, clean, tastefully decorated, and warm (which is a big selling point at the end of October.) Both rooms had big windows to let in natural light, couches or settees to lounge on while watching TV, and big bathrooms. Each room also had a mini-fridge stocked with bottled water and fresh milk for the tea as well as a decanter of sherry.

Breakfast was always bountiful and excellent, beginning with the standard offerings of pastries and cold cereal, followed by a choice of several cooked breakfasts including a daily special. The food was always delicious and the choice came as a welcome relief to someone who is not tremendously fond of bacon and eggs. You should be sure to try the porridge!! We ate around one big table and Robin was in the dining room introducing everyone and breaking the conversational ice while serving.

The B&B was located in a quieter area, next to a park but just down the street from restaurants, bars, and movie theatres. A pleasant 10 or 15 minute stroll through a well lit and well traveled park puts you at the castle end of the Royal Mile. The B&B is also near a bus stop for several different routes into the main part of the city.

I’ve stayed in Edinburgh a number of times, in accommodations ranging from a backpackers hostel to a 5 star hotel, but Elmview was a lovely place to stay and I will definitely try to stay there when I next go back.

My wife and I and another couple spent 2 nights at Elmview and loved it. The hosts were quite cordial and very informative! The
rooms were large, clean and very comfortable! Breakfasts were
delicious as there were 4 or 5 choices and a special every morning. We spent 17 days in Scotland and Ireland and the
Elmview was certainly top rated by us over all other lodgings.
We already recommeded it to a couple we met in Inverness and
would definitely recommend it to anyone visiting Edinburgh.

Robin and Nici were very attentive and knowledgeable about Edinburgh and its environs ..we went out and about with a fantastic breakfast under our belts. The accommadation was superb and it added very much to our stay in this lovely city.

We only had time to stay one night, but it was an absolutely lovely night. Robin and Nici have thought of everything- lists of recommended restaurants close by, in-room entertainment (like you'd need any in Edinburgh!), good snacks and even some welcoming sherry. Our room was beautiful, with the biggest bathroom we saw on our whole trip through the UK and lovely furnishings, clean and bright but still unique. Family-style breakfast in the morning let us chat with our fellow guests while Nici gave us several options for our meal. My french toast was amazing and it was so nice to have options, as the full English and Scottish breakfasts we had everywhere else were beginning to wear me down!
It's a beautiful house and an easy walk to the heart of everything- we covered the castle, the Royal Mile, Princes Street and more in our one afternoon there simply by walking from Elmview.
We will definitely go back to Edinburgh and back to Elmview, I can't think of a better way to experience their beautiful city.

  • Liked — The beautiful room and attention to detail, they've really thought of everything.
  • Disliked — Honestly, we have no complaints.
