Owner description: The Palace of Holyroodhouse is the official residence in Scotland of Her Majesty The Queen. The palace stands at the end of Edinburgh's Royal Mile against the spectacular backdrop of Arthur's Seat. This fine palace is closely associated with Scotland's rich history and is used by The Queen when carrying out official engagements in Scotland. The State Apartments reflect the changing tastes of successive monarchs, and are renowned for their fine plasterwork ceilings and unrivalled collection of Brussels tapestries. They are furnished with numerous fine paintings and other works of art, many of which have long associations with Holyroodhouse. The visit to Holyroodhouse includes Mary, Queen of Scots' Chambers and the Darnley Rooms, the setting for many dramatic episodes in Mary's short and turbulent reign. In the Palace's west corner tower are Mary's Bedchamber, described as 'the most famous room in Scotland', and her Outer Chamber, the scene of the murder of her Italian secretary, David Rizzio'. During the summer months, you can join a guided tour of Holyrood Abbey, which lies adjacent to the Palace in the spectacular setting of Arthur's Seat. Escorted by Wardens dressed in their ancient hunting Stewart tartan, you will learn about the building's extraordinary history.

“Fairly Interesting”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 14, 2013

The Palace is beautiful and many of the rooms are interesting. I did find, however, it was much the same throughout and we did find ourselves getting bored after a while. The gallery at the Palace, although interesting, was not worth the ticket price.

“Beautiful, Must see”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 13, 2013

We visited the Palace of Holyroodhouse with very low expecations. We mainly just went because we had time to kill - but man am I glad we went. I was blown aware with the architecture of the Palace. I would recommend taking the tour inside the Palace - you get a complimentary audio guide with ticket purchase and in the tour you get to see some lovely art and some amazing rooms. The highlight for me was the end of the tour which ended at the Holyrood Abbey ruins. The ruins are breath taking and anyone who enjoys taking photo's could stay in the Abbey for hours. I would absolutely recommend visiting the Palace.

“Attention to Closing Hours”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2013

It was a shame that it closes one hour before the official closing hour! Not counting on the fact that it closes really soon (16:30) there was no info that could indicated us that it actually closes at 15:30 once we've got there at 15:38... Therefore we didn't visited once we were on a strict schedule...
