If you are on the Royal Mile (and of course you ARE!) stop by this museum that is full of helpful guides (volunteers I believe) if you want a verbal tour or you can read the laminated cards that are available to carry around each room, if that is more your style. See how a not-poor family lived in the old town that is under the current city (for how the poor lived, go to Mary Kings Close). Beautiful hundreds of years old items and painted ceilings and the original baby walker are some of the things you will see. Learn why beds had canopies (not just for show) and where the expression "Sleep tight" came from. Loved this little gem!
