We spent a nice couple of hours enjoying their offerings around all sorts of optical effects. Great for kids to learn

Hello and thanks for coming to see us. We’re quite sneaky here – children learn while they’re having fun so don’t realise they’re being educated! Come and see us again next time you’re over from Switzerland.

“A little World of Wonder in Scotland”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2013

This place was a great surprise and full of entertaining stuff to do for all ages, 3D illusions that have to be seen to be believed, interactive and educational activities throughout using the trickery of imagery, light and perspective and of course the camera obscura at the top. The spinning Bridge which makes you think you're turning upside down, the mirror maze and some of the interactive imagery were the highlights providing a good couple of hours of entertainment! It is reasonably priced considering all that it offers and the views from the top are quite spectacular looking across Edinburgh and beyond. It's perfect for a rainy day BUT!! if you go on a sunny day you can enjoy the full benefit of the camera obscura and the views at the top. Opposite the witchery just below the castle so ideally placed for easy finding.

Hi there –great title – we couldn’t have put it better ourselves! You’ve captured us in a nutshell in your review and description of our quirky collection of exhibits. We’re an all-weather attraction and the camera obscura operates whatever the climate throws at us, the show goes on! You’re absolutely correct though – the stronger the light outside, the stronger the picture in the camera obscura. Thanks for your very accurate directions too!

“well worth a visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2013

we visited the camera obscura purley out of recomendations from other people, and we were glad we paid it a visit. we were lucky on the day the sun came out so the image was really clear, the kids had a good laugh at picking people up ( which will be more clearer when you go there). as you venture down to the different levels you are greated with lots of interactive stuff which again the kids really enjoyed. both my children are aged 6 and 8 and didnt have any trouble with the activities. well worth a visit for all age groups.

Hello Paul. We’re so glad that you decided to come after reading other people’s recommendations – the positive things that visitors say about us is the best possible form of advertising! It’s great that you got a (rare) sunny day in Edinburgh – we’re an all-weather attraction but as you rightly point out, the stronger the light is outside, the sharper the image is in the camera obscura. Picking people up and sometimes “splatting” them is often cited by children (and some adults!) as being their favourite part of the experience – it’s a great way to release any tension! Thanks for coming and it’s great that you and the family enjoyed your visit.

“Surprisingly good fun”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2013 via mobile

My girlfriend and I visited in December and were both surprised how much of a laugh it was! We first went in to get away from the cold but soon realised there was plenty of wierd, interesting and fun things to fill 1 hour and a half.
Highlights were the mirror maze, the spinning bridge that makes you feel sick and doing the little and large impression in the wierd room.
Only bad point was the 30 minute show at the summit of the building. It was unintersting, went on 29 minutes too long and you can see the view on the mirrored telescope better from outside!
Other than this I would reccomended it to couples, groups and families with kids. The gift shop had plenty of retro toys and other old school things to remeniss over.... But they didn't sell Wonka Bars! Unbelievable!

“Great for the kids, and an excellent view”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2013

Quite a busy attraction in Edinburgh, with lots of families coming through. The camera obscura show at the top is worthwhile doing, but make sure you go during daylight hours (or get a re-admittance pass for a second day). One of the best views in Edinburgh, too.
