Firstly let me say that the Glenalmond website does not do it justice - it is actually much nicer than it looks!
I received a nice welcome from the hosts and was provided with all the information I required.
There are two types of room - deluxe or standard. I stayed in a deluxe room twice but did get a sneak peak at the standard and found it to be pretty nice too.
My room had been recently decorated - with taste and style according to the era of the original house. The curtains are dramatic and thankfully also keep the light out. There was a grand 4 poster bed and sumptuous new carpet on which you just have to walk barefoot. The en-suite was small but perfectly formed (no bath, just shower).
With regard to the noise from the main road, my bedroom (room 1) was on the ground floor, directly facing the driveway. To be honest, the noise of traffic did not really bother me (and I am quite sensitive to noise) but rather the traffic from the hallway was more of a problem. With the ground floor rooms being so close to the breakfast room, I could hear the clanging of crockery and cutlery as well as early morning conversation. Do not stay on the ground floor if you would like a lie-in! I have stayed on the first floor also - this is much much better (facing the back garden).
The breakfast room is, again, decorated in a tasteful, classy manner. I particularly liked the fact that you order your breakfast the night before so everything is perfect and on time in the morning. The quality of food (and hot chocolate! - very rare) was excellent. Incidentally, if you choose to bring some hot food back to the house for an evening meal, you must eat it in the dining room (which is fair enough).
I do have a few niggles though.. and they are as follows:
- I was welcomed to help myself to a wineglass from the dining room which I did.. but this was not cleared away at all during my 3 night stay.
- I thought the pillows were a little too lacking in oomph! Bit too flat for my liking, especially in contrast to the luxury of the room.
- On my second stay, a previous guest's used towel remained in the bathroom.
- As a single occupant, I did feel as though I did not hold as much priority when initially booking my room.
In summary, a friendly, comfortable place to stay - only 20 mins walk from the town centre with plenty of buses should you be feeling lazy!
