I was very pleased with this hostel overall, it was in a fantastic location and the staff were friendly and welcoming.
The rooms were clean and spacious and they felt safe unlike some other rooms in city centre accomodation I've stayed in before. The self-catering kitchen was large and had most of the equipment you'd need other than knives and you could store any food you'd bought in the communal fridges.
One of the things that I found annoying and it wasn't the fault of the hostel was a group of French school kids who were playing with the lift and making a lot of noise in the corridor but I suppose you take that risk when staying in places like this.
I didn't like the shower as it was quite forceful to a degree where it was a little bit painful and the keycards stopped working one evening so we had to go back down to reception to get them activated again. Apparantely you shouldn't keep them near magnetic sources which is a bit of a pain as you've practically got to keep them in a pocket of their own. I don't know what's wrong with conventional keys to be honest.
I got really annoyed on the last day as we'd checked out and were told that we couldn't leave our luggage in the luggage room and would have to use the lockers instead. These lockers weren't exactly easy to use and we'd have lost £2 to them for nothing if I didn't go and ask the desk for help. If hotels expect people to check out by 10am they should at least allow their guests to store their luggage for free for the rest of that day.
There was no TV in the room which I gather is standard for hostels so I got bored in the evenings.
