“Charming, clean hotelin an ideal location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2013

We recently stayed in the Ailsa Craig having a 3 night week-end break. Unfortunately we were right at the top of the hotel - a climb of 70 stairs as there are no lifts. The room was cavernous with a double & single bed & ample room for all suitcases and the accumulated shopping from a full day in the town! The hotel is clean, beds are comfortable & the breakfast is excellent and served on clean crockery in a clean dining room. There is a small hotel bar & a charming rear garden with 2 benches. The hotel is approx 12 mins walk from the city centre and ideally situated for all attractions. the staff are all friendly & extremely courteous & can help you avail of discounts in many attractions. I recommended the hotel to a friend who booked it upon our return . I would definitely stay here again

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the ground or first floor as there is no lift.

When we arrived the reception told us with a smile we were at the top of the building, and I mean the top, when we got there with cases, the room was fine, overlooking the back gardens, nice views, shower room small, shower very good, plenty of room for one night, we had a good breakfast.
The hotel is in a lovely area, easy walk in to Princes Street, the map they provide also gets you discount at restaurants, (found this out by chance, had it open at Stada, got 20% off).

We stayed at the Ailsa Craig in July 2013. We booked the triple en suite room, which is enormous. The beds were very comfortable and there was enough space for storage of suitcases without feeling cramped. The bathroom has obviously been upgraded quite recently as everything shone. Our room was on the first floor (luckily for us, as unfortunately there is no lift), with a lovely view of the gardens across the road. There was no street noise at night. The staff are very helpful and friendly and you really feel part of their family. The breakfasts are served hot, on good crockery and with decent cutlery. An added bonus is the free wifi in all areas. The hotel is situated within easy walking distance of the Royal Mile and Princes street, with many bus stops close by too. I'd stay here again.

we spent a couple of nights at the Hotel over the weekend, we liked the overall experience. The Hotel is not beside the center of the town but if you don't bother walking just 10/15 mins then it's perfect. It was clean and above all quiet, which is very important above all at the end of a very long day out. The breakfast as well was ok, nothing special but still we could not complain. We would recommend it.

Close to the city centre and in the lee of Calton Hill and near the beginning of Leith Walk the hotel is very handy for the city centre. The back bedrooms are particularly quiet and face onto the large gardens of the New Town buildings which abut onto Calton Hill park. An oasis of quiet in the bustling city centre. The front bedrooms are possibly less quiet as they face a cobbled street.

The hotel does not offer meals (apart from breakfast) but the staff are very helpful and courteous. It's not a de lux hotel but is good value.

Room Tip: Opt for a back bedroom for maximum peace.

This was a late booking but quite a find!
I booked through booking.com and got a great deal. It included a fine 'scottish breakfast' (a full english with HaggisI?) but most of all offered great night's sleep.
The room was clean, tidy and modern and the en-suite shower facility was first class. I'll stay here every time I'm in Edinburgh.

Room Tip: All rooms seemed to be spacious - mine was at the back of the hotel and looked over beautiful garden...

Myself and two friends stayed in this hotel on the last night of our motorcycling break around Scotand. We stayed here on a Saturday night. What a nice tranquil position the hotel is in with a garden at the rear and a park across the road to the front.Parking on the road at the front is free at weekends. We had a nice high ceilinged well equipped room with comfortable beds wich was light and airey. It was only a 10 minute walk to the east end of Princess Street and the city centre.
Leith Walk is only 5 mins away.Breakfast was nice,
