I stayed at the George this weekend for my partner's birthday, and after reading some of the reviews on this site I was slightly anxious, but got a fantastic deal on gta hotels, so thought we'd try it.
We arrived 3 hours before check in, and luckily our room was ready, so we booked straight in (we had planned to just leave our luggage and come back later). We stayed in room 212 in the Adams wing, which has just been completely refurbished, although there was still a piece of wallpaper missing (although by the end of the day it had appeared and the corridor looked good as new).
Our room was spacious, and the bed was huge with beautiful Egyptian cotton sheets and lots of big squishy pillows. It has obviously just been totally redone, with big beige drapes and purple glass lamps, all very modern and beautifully designed. The bathroom wasn't huge but was clean and efficiently equipped.
The very best thing about this hotel is the communal areas (in contrast to the last reviewer's opinion!) The bar, Tempus 8, is very stylish with wonderful, well-priced cocktails, perfect for pre-dinner drinks and a night cap. We also ate our full Scottish breakfast in there, in their big leather booths with huge bright windows.
The location is perfect for everything Edinburgh has to offer, great bars on George Street (particularly The Dome opposite) and within walking distance to the Old Town and Castle. Of course, there are a couple of things I'd change - there were no bathrobes or minibar in our room, but the rest of the hotel more than made up for it. I would whole-heartedly recommend it and wouldn't hesitate to stay there again. Please feel free to email me if there's anything you'd like to know that I haven't covered.
