We stayed for 3 nights in two rooms, my father and I. We wanted an Edinburgh location and having known Edinburgh well I know this is one of the best located hotels so that was great. When I arrived around 12 I was told checkin was 3 I requested if we could get earlier rooms as both had a bit of a journey and within 15 minutes they had re arranged the rooms and we had access which was brilliant.
The rooms (think they were std double) were well planned although only just big enough, the bedroom itself was great and looking out to George Street (365). I was very surprised at how quiet the room was from outside and inside noise, the only slight noise I could hear was plugs being put into sockets, and some slight noise from outside on the Friday night but very minor the double glazing must work extremely well.
The staff were great when we needed them very friendly and helpful and I even managed to do my online checkin at the concierge desk to avoid the extortionate fees that all hotels seem to think are acceptable for internet access, the sooner there’s an amnesty the better - if pubs can give it free so can expensive hotels, but that’s a rant on worldwide hotels not the George in particular!
My only slight criticism is the bathrooms, they were very small and the flush system is a nightmare, big button on the wall you have to hold in, which for someone with weak wrists (like my elderly father) or a not so good thumb this is pretty hard to do! The other issue is the access to the bath for a shower is quite tight – again if elderly could be an issue.
Parking is a bummer as well about 10 minutes away in a very expensive NCP, so if you're going by car I would recommend alternative method if you can do it.
Ate in the Vin Caffe in Multrees Walk for dinner - outstanding food, service and ambience - would recommend that and also Wildfire in Rose Street.
