“Great overnight stay!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2013 via mobile

My bride and I stayed at the George for the last night of our Scottish honeymoon!
Great atmosphere on entering reception as the hotel had a wedding on, quick check-in then upto our room to find a card congratulating us on our wedding from the staff and also a best wishes cake.......very nice touch thanks.
Room was spacious with a massive bed........pillows were a bit flat and lifeless.
Breakfast this morning before leaving was a bit disappointing.......fried eggs were a bit under cooked and one even still had shell in it!
Would we stay here again........yes but without the breakfast!

We did a weekend in Edinburgh and the George sounded perfect. Cant beat the location, which really is convenient for all the city centre. Rooms were on the small side with little space to store clothes and we were only there for a couple of nights. There was also a constant drone from the A/C units during the night. The buffet breakfast was typical large hotel fare, fairly unforgettable.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your feedback. I am sorry that your stay was not as you had expected. The George Hotel is a listed building, and many of the bedrooms can differ in size and layout.

Please accept my apologies if we fell short on customer care during your visit. I do hope that this will not prevent you from returning in the future.

I stayed here for one night on business . First impressions are great and are helped by the glass of sparkling wine at reception as you check in, although it wasn't all that clear to me at first that this was a complimentary glass of wine I was being offered and perhaps it would have been better to bring it to my room as it was a bit of a faff carrying my things, the room key , using the lift and carrying a class of fizz. Other than that having found the room ( it is a bit of a labyrinth) it was spacious and luxurious with pretty much everything you could want including a huge bed that could sleep about 5 and aircon . The room service staff were very attentive both on the phone and when delivering the food and breakfast was similarly good quality with helpful staff and real un-stewed to death coffee . I would definitely stay again and it was very close to the bus station , Edinburgh Waverley and shops . Ideal for a quick stop off or a holiday/break.

The George Hotel is a terrific location right in the heart of Edinburgh. It's a very quick trip to the Royal Mile and to other historic points. It has a beautiful lobby and and a nice feel to it. Our original room was nice but we discovered that someone else had already checked in to that room (!!) and once we discovered that we got the aid from the lobby to come up and get us moved but we then ended up in a room with a smaller bed and bathroom than the original room. This rubbed me the wrong way and they did compensate us with a better room once I asked. The next day (and our remaining 2 nights) we were switched to a better room. This room was nice with a nice sized space and large bed and nice sized bathroom. Meanwhile, our bedroom windows looked out to a magnificent view of the city and the Firth of Forth. Meanwhile, downstairs in the lobby are a few guys who part of the staff who were tremendously helpful in helping us several times The last time I got help from Martin (Polish guy) who aided me in finding a good rental deal for me and getting me on my feet. BIG high marks for the lobby guys! I'd go back to the George, I think, again. And, again, it is an unbeatable location.

We stayed for one night. Location is perfect to make a walk in the center. The hotel has his historical charm, rooms have all the comfort, bathroom is a little small but OK. Rooms are very clean. Bed is great. No noice from outside. Service is very nice.
Breakfast was continental with a lot of Scottish accents: warm and cold meat, cheeses, fruit, cerials, just lovely as is the breakfast room. Love to go back to this hotel.

This is our go-to hotel in Edinburgh. We have stayed before, for 7 nights over Christmas 2010, then 1 night a couple of weeks ago. The cost was much higher this last time (for a Friday night), but the location and the setting are worth it, at least for a night.

Rooms are clean, quiet. Breakfast is a hearty meal. We did not use the bar this time but it was very pleasant last time.

Highly recommended, less than 5 minutes form Waverley Station. We arranged a hire car pick up next day - just a tip - the hire car offices at the station are hard to find - they are on platform 2, but no signage permitted!

We are just back from a two night stay at the George Hotel, intended as a treat to allow us to catch up with friends and family. Room fine albeit a bizarre way of getting to it - up one level by lift, walk a bit, go down a set of stairs and through what seemed more like a service corridor than a 4 star hotel. Toilet flush did not work well. Receptionist who booked us in was switched off and disinterested, however receptionist who later helped us with theatres etc was very friendly and efficient. Breakfast was a shambles and worth nowhere near the £16.50 a head you will pay if you don't pre-book. We had thought we had pre-booked breakfast at £10 per head, and the receptionist said 'you have breakfast included', but we were charged the £16.50 per head at checkout and then had to have the discussion with the manager. Queue for breakfast was only 2 minutes, however the table was a small bar table and totally unable to hold teapot, cups, plates etc, most of which we had to put on the dirty table next door. Buffet queues were very long - fair on a busy Sunday morning - however the hot food was poorly cooked, bacon barely cooked, sausages and bacon swimming in water or fat, scrambled egg congealed. Toast cold and flabby, could not find croissants, no juice or glasses at all and none came before we left the Tempus restaurant. A number of people compaming volubly around us and staff were working hard but totally overwhelmed. Overall, not the treat we were expecting.

Room Tip: Room 40 is at the back of the hotel and backs onto a lane so was quiet. But anyone with a small chi...
