Occasionally on our frequent travels, we experience an incident that turns our view of our host hotel on its head. So it was at the George on 13 January 2013.
An overnight stay started well at reception, continued even better when we saw our spacious room (3rd floor, overlooking Thistle St) and went merrily on over coffee in the Tempus bar.
A very comfortable bed, an efficient aircon and the quiet of our location ensured a good sleep. The bathroom was large and well appointed with a shower that worked very well.
To breakfast where one of us ordering 2 poached eggs drew the response "We've run out of eggs.". Robert, the Head Waiter apologised personally, though our suggestion that a visit to
Mr Sainsbury a couple of hundred yards away would solve the problem fell on stony ground. We left Robert in no doubt as to our disappointment.
Our visit wasn't spoiled but it was certainly marred. How can a 4 star hotel have no eggs? To do so suggests a worrying lack of attention to detail and worse, a disregard for good customer service.
A stay at the George can still largely be recommended and we hope you avoid our eggsperience!
