I stayed here with my husband for 3 nights the week following new year. Parked the car in front of the hotel to get our bags and check in. Upon walking up to reception the staff where joking about behind the desk, this continued while we were checked in and handed our room keys. When we asked for directions for the nearest car park we were given a Map with the route we needed to take highlighted by the receptionist and informed we needed to move the car straight away. When we got back in the car and looked at the Map the route that had been highlighted actually took us the wrong way up a one way street!!!! We then walked back to the hotel and took our bags to the room. On first glance it looked like a really nice room, however, we then started to find items left behind by previous guests. The bed was the most uncomfortable I have ever tried to sleep on. I didn't sleep at all on the first night. During our few days stay we noticed everyone getting checked in were given glasses of champagne, not something we had expected but surely the service should be consistent? Also on one of the days our room wasn't serviced. We didnt eat there so i cant comment on the food.
This hotel is in a great location, maybe if we had booked directly with the George we would have had a better experience but next time I visit Edinburgh I will be staying in a different hotel.
