The Marriot in Edinburgh is a decent choice if you want to be near to the Airport and it has good Bus links to the centre of the city which is about 7 miles away.

The Hotel itself is good and the standards are fine yet they are planning on improving all the rooms in 2008 which will make it very good indeed.

Breakfast was fantastic with a wide choice of both hot and cold foods and the staff were very attentive even though the restaurant was busy each morning.

However don’t eat there at night! We had two meals in the hotel and both night we were very disappointed. The food is no better than average and very expensive. On both night we got fed up of waiting for our food to arrive and had to chase the staff to see where it was. When it did arrive the quality was pretty poor and some of our requests for extra ingredients had been missed off. In the end we got one of the meals free because we had to send it back to have it changed which wad the final straw. We eat at the Manor House Chinese and Fabio’s Italian which are both a 10 minute walk down the main road towards the centre of the city and they were both very good.

Overall the hotel was good but was let down by it’s evening meals.

  • Disliked — Evening meals were very poor two nights in a row

This is an excellent hotel. I stayed there as part of a tour of Britain. The rooms were in pristine condition with large beds by European standards. The full breakfasts served in the hotel were the best out of 5 hotels I stayed at in Britain. I had the opportunity to meet the hotel management who were very gracious and informed us that the hotel rooms are going to be remodeled next year, which seemed unnecessary to me. The only negative with this hotel is that it's not city center. You can't really walk, but the bus is very convenient. I will definitely stay here again.

I have read a mixed batch of reviews of the Edinburgh Marriott and having just returned felt it appropriate to give my version. I flew up from Southampton on Friday morning and arrived early, 8am at Edinburgh airport. I called the courtesy phone and by 8.30am I was on the minibus to the hotel. It was too early to check-in and Jock, Concierge said that we can just leave our cases and come back later, at say 2-3pm to check-in. This was fine and we went off to explore the city. We walked down to the Gyle Centre and got a number 22 bus. Any destination is £1 each - single, no returns, but you can get a day 'runaround' ticket for £2.50. Buses are very regular - public transport is excellent in Edinburgh. We got the bus each day over the 4 days we were there and it was quick, clean and reliable and ran late enough to get us back to the hotel each night.

When we returned to the hotel on our first day our cases had been taken to the room already which was a welcome relief! Our room was possibly the smallest we have ever had in a Marriott and the view was of the swimming pool window, albeit there were blinds blocking the actual pool, but you could see the shimmering water. It was clean and comfy - huge bed, but a tiny bathroom. Overall, we were happy though and unpacked and kept first room we were given, which is unusual for me!

Staff were actually good but rarely saw anyone from UK although diversity should be celebrated! Room staff sometimes were difficult to communicate with but we got there in the end. I arranged a late check-out with a front-line male staff member from Latvia but it appears this never got conveyed so had numerous calls whilst trying to pack and leave by 2pm on our final day. Drinks in bar were overpriced and went once, wouldn't do again. Breakfast was superb. Gym had great and modern equipment and I enjoyed swimming in the pool.

Have just booked for Festival next year - I don't want to stay in centre of town and for a £1 each way, this really is not a problem for a little effort you can go anywhere you want.

Concierge, Jock is so good, great interpersonal skills and shuttle bus to and from airport is great. Really can't ask for much more. WELL DONE ALL.

My boyfriend and I booked this hotel for two nights in november on hotels.com, and thought we were getting an excellent deal for two nights bed & breakfast @ £75 a night for the room, esp as it was a weekend (sat and sun night).

The hotel is located on the glasgow road which is a few miles outside the city centre and there is a regular bus service from right outside the hotel into Edinburgh and the fare is only £1! However when we were here the weather was very bad so we usually got a taxi to and from the hotel and its about £13 into the city.

The hotel room was large and clean with a queen size bed and a lounge area. The bathroom was clean and the shower was ok. We dined in the hotels meditarrano restaurant on the first evening and we were EXTREMELY disappointed with the food, word of advice: don't order the chicken! The food was poor and not worth the price. (We dine out regularly and don't mind paying a high price for GOOD food, this was not good food).

The breakfast was excellent with an impressive selection of dishes, but the sausages were a little undercooked....is raw undercooked??

Overall we were slightly disapponted with this hotel and expected more from a five star, it didn't even have a shop!

We woke up on our check-out morning to find the bill had been slipped under our door during the night, even though we had already paid online, we were further shocked to discover that the hotel was only charging us £64 per night for bed & breakfast!!! Compared to the £75 per night we paid on hotels.com. so we recommend you check the rates with the hotel before you book.

Edinburgh is a beautiful city, a couple of days is not really enough to enjoy everything it has to offer. Note it is extremely difficult to hale a taxi on a saturday night, we had to wait for two hours in the freezing cold and pouring rain on the sat night for a taxi back to the hotel!

Stayed here for two nights in May 2007. This is not a typical Marriott hotel; it's more like one of their lesser brands. The room was clean and a bit large, though a bit dated. Room service food was adequate but nothing to write home about. Service was fine and friendly. There is no sundry/gift shop, which I found quite inconvenient since I caught a cold in Scotland and needed some over-the-counter medicine.

Hotel is convenient to the airport but little else. It is either a bus or taxi ride into the city, which is a charming place.

It was my first time in Edinburgh, so I'm not very familiar with hotels there. My advice -- if you need to be close to the airport, the Marriott is a decent choice, but if you want to explore Edinburgh there are likely to be better options.

The dollar does not go far in the U.K. these days, but I was expecting more for the money I spent at the Marriott.

  • Liked — Convenient to airport
  • Disliked — Building was not up to expectations of the Marriott brand
