I stayed FREE at this hotel, due to a special offer I responded to.
This hotel is situated outside of the city centre, however there is a bus stop just out front of the hotel which runs frequent, regular buses which will take you right into Princes Street in the heart of Edinburgh(takes about 10 mins). On the plus side, this hotel is just over the road from the new(ish) Ocean Terminal building which is a large indoor shopping complex, which also houses the Royal Yacht Britannia visitors centre, which leads you straight through to the yacht itself (well worth a visit!!). This hotel is very new, so was very clean and well maintained when I visited, though a little lacking in atmosphere, as there is no restaurant or bar as such. There is a small bar in the breakfast room, which was empty when I stayed there.
Rooms are small, but well stocked for a budget hotel, and at the time I stayed early in 2003 was spotlessly clean, which has to be a big plus.
Breakfast was help yourself, with the usual cereals, fruit juices etc, also fresh fruit and yogurts, toast (make yourself). Very nice, makes a change from the usual insipid english bangers and bacon. Overall, if you are looking for cheap and clean and cheerful rather than character, then I would recommend this hotel to you.
