Arthur's Seat- a Must See. but it is really hiking to the top (3 hours)
I would definitely recommend this mini hiking at any time of the day. But, never at night.
I don't think it will be safe to get down once you are at Arthur's Seat I almost got lost, getting down, while the sun was setting down.
I would give a good 3 hours and a wet-tissue and a small bottle of water, and a trash bag.
And, the comfortable attire, not a kill heel, flip-flops, or Tennis shoes, but a good pair of sneakers at least.
The starting point is only 10-15min away from the tourist attraction. We started from the Congress Hall/ Holyrood Palace area. just across the parking lot and the motor road.
1.The giant wall(cliff and plateau-like) from a far distance the train station is only the first 1/4 part that is a gentler slope all the way.
Still, coming up to this far(30-40min) would gives a good view to the city but that is still not quite the same as climbing all the way up to the Arthur's Seat.
2. From there, only to the first 2/3 of the hiking involves tougher climbing tall stone steps, for 30-40min. Then, a brief gentle sloped path again, with green grass, That is a heavenly world.
3. Then, the last 5-10 min. to the red-colored Arthur's seat is a bit challenging as they get slippery with small gravels. The locals come up here as a routine exercise, running all the way up in 40min. Tough!
The view at Arthur's Seat is breath-taking. I was up there for a good hour absorbing the "spirit" of the city. Only when you are up there, you will feel definitely that you are part of the nature and the time.
Without seeing it from above, the visit in Edinburgh will not be remembered as such a quite heart-throbbing experience, I must say.
