If you want customer care and have a nice stay in this beautiful city STAY IN THE SHERATON GRAND on lothian road. I've stayed in better Travel Lodges than the Roxburghe. This hotel is so poor in customer satisfaction, i wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. We arrived on a Friday at 1.00pm and where told that our rooms wouldn't be ready until 3 o'clock. The reception staff where rude & obnoxious and didn't care. Trying to get room service in the evening, we where met with a variety of excuses. Firstly, room service required a credit card swiped at reception......? Duuuh how else do you check into a hotel? The next excuse was the chef had gone home, even though the hotel was fully booked and in they claim they provide 24 hour room service. After a couple of minutes the receptionist said he would have to make it and he couldn't be bothered. I was in a suite and had asked for two bottles of water and they said the bar was shut and they weren't going to bring anything to the room. On the Saturday afternoon we used the pool and spa facilities and the two employees on the desk where most unpleasant. This hotel is so understaffed it is unreal. This is not a 4* hotel.

I stayed at this hotel with my husband and 2 daughters arriving on Easter Monday and staying for 4 nights. As has been mentioned it was difficult to see and we drove round several times before ringing the hotel for directions and even then it took ages to find the car park. Our rooms were on the first floor and the lift was out of order (and remained so throughout our stay) although we were asked if we needed help to get upstairs. We were in the older part of the hotel and although the room was ok it wasn't the best I've seen. There was rubbish in the bathroom bin when we arrived but the rest of the room was clean. We could also hear music in the bathroom (which we think was from the bar downstairs) and that was annoying at times. Breakfast was good and plentiful.
I filled in their customer review card before leaving and let them know about the unemptied bin and the music but I'm not sure they read it as we got a standard reply letter back with no mention of the complaints.
This hotel is OK and the location is brilliant just don't expect too much and you won't be disappointed.

Booked a twin room for an Easter weekend stay with my teenage daughter but got a double. Still, it was warm, dry, well-maintained, sparkling and spacious, although the window was tiny. Hotel ambience airy and modern with a touch of traditional.
Desk staff were unsmiling and unable to deal with a non-credit card person so I ended up paying cash in advance! Not impressed with desk staff, but had been forewarned of this from your site.
Concierge staff friendly, helpful and made the stay very palatable. Ditto on bar staff. Again, on reading other reviews, we didn't stay for breakfast.
Would use again. Room was excellent, and after all, that was what we used the most. However they need to work on training their front desk staff!

  • Liked — the sense of space in the downstairs lobby/bar area
  • Disliked — the check-in staff inadequately trained

Myself and 5 girlfriends stayed here last weekend. While the rooms were very small the staff and breakfast more than made up for this especially the Concerige called James who was so friendly and professional at his job. Nothing was a problem for the staff in the hotel, Kate our barmaid had time to chat to us about Edinburgh and surrounding areas.

We had breakfast most mornings which was excellent whether you are a vegitarian or not.

The location of the hotel was excellent, just 200m from Princess Street. We need more of these hotels.

The airport bus brings you to just around the corner from the hotel so it was very easy to find. Charlotte square is just off the main shopping street (Princes St) so it is both central and a quiet area.
The pool was quite nice and I tried the steam room too but not the sauna or the gym. The staff were friendly. The room was of average size and quite clean but I did notice the bedspread was a bit old and faded.
We had buffet breakfast included in our rate and it was great, they had a huge selection.
I am not surprised that it is usually a very expensive hotel because it is one of the best I have stayed in.
