Make sure you get a room NOT facing onto busy George Street and try not to pay more than $200/night. We were considering a location on the Royal Mile and are glad we didn't. This hotel is a comfortable walk to Princes Street. Very good staff, especially Jack, the doorman. As with all UK hotels, breakfast is outrageously expensive, but there are good places on George Street. Brown's, just around the corner from the hotel is very good.

Central Location, not always a good thing…

The Roxburghe is very central, a stones throw from Princess Street (Western end) so your close to a lot of things and public transport. The hotel is nice and our room was good but not sure it warranted the ‘executive’ tag. We were to find out the room location was bad and not for those who wanted some sleep during their stay. Avoid being given a room that backs onto Rose Street!. Rose street is full of bars etc. Saturday night didn’t get quiet till 3am then the lorries were about at 6:30am emptying all the bottles etc, no peace. Sunday night was a little better but not that much.

Breakfast was nice. What was provided was good but not the spread and choice I’d expect in a Scottish hotel of this grading. We didn’t eat dinner in the hotel so can’t comment on that. On the whole service was fine.

We had a great time in Edinburgh but the hotel was a disappointment, I’ll pick a quieter location next time. If you like the bars etc on your doorstep though it could be a good choice.

The outside of this Georgian Building is lovely, and impressive. The Location is fantastic and there is a great view of Edinburgh Castle from the back of the hotel. The staff were friendly, professional and courteous and made me feel special. I highly reconmend the hotel. One negative was the high price of Brekfast £17.50 ouch !

The castle is an easy walk and is an expensive day out 13 quid entry and 3 extra for an audio guide.

Rabbies tour to Lochness and Glencoe was fab, But Ali the driver did not shut up for 12 hours ! He was quite interesting though ! Do not do the Lochness boat trip totally pointless and expensive at £10 with nothing at all to see.

We took the number 22 bus to Leith to see the Yacht Britania which was an excellent day out ! And was only 10 pounds incl audio guide much better value !

Location amazing. We had lunch and dinner - both were top quality. Mcdonalds hotels are always of a great standard. This was fabulous. loved it!
