I stayed in the Roxburghe with my husband for 3 nights. It was our first time to Edinburgh and we were not disappointed with the city or the hotel. The hotel was great, the location is very central, just a few steps down the square and you are on Princess St the main street in Edinburgh. We were able to walk everywhere even at night to restaurants and bars. The hotel was very comfortable, the staff were extremely friendly and their buffet breakfast and full scottish breakfast were to die for. I'll definitely be going back to Edinburgh and I won't have to look any further for my accomodation.

Stayed here for a conference

On the web looks interesting and original, stayed in the main annex (which is almost the whole hotel, pleasant large rooms with good bath room - JUST BORING!!

Conference breakfast in downstairs room, no windows, loud piped musice and cold congealed boring breakfast

totally uninspiring and if we had been paying £17.50 which is the price for breakfast it would have been a ripoff

for only £115 conference rate just boring!!

We walked to this hotel from Waverley Train Station but got a taxi back. It's not miles away but still a bit of a walk with your luggage. The hotel is very central, very close to Princes St and just around the corner from Rose St (one way) and George St with it's lovely cocktail bars (the other way).
The reception staff were very welcoming, pleasant and friendly.
Had a room overlooking George St with a slight view of Charlotte's Square. The room was large with an equally large King Size bed. The bathroom was lovely with a shower I didn't want to come out of.
A large choice for breakfast ranging from fruit, yogurts, croissants etc to the full Scottish which was very tasty, however I did find the table service they had during week days was quite slow (not enough staff) however as the weekend was 'buffet style' and help yourself this seemed to work better.
Overall the hotel is very nicely decorated, clean and quiet. I would be happy to stay here again on my next visit which will hopefully be soon.

We stayed here for four nights during the easter holidays. The hotel is currently undergoing a million pound refurbishment and we were fortunate to stay in a newly refurbished standard twin room (you could still smell the new carpets!) The room was tastefully decorated, warm and airy, with a huge flat screen TV and big bathroom. The only drawback is that the workmen can be heard working from 9am till about 5pm (so no afternoon naps!) and you are unable to use the stairs, so lifts can be crowded and slow (they were working however!) Breakfast was plentiful and choice was fantastic, although service, for cooked breakfast, was sometimes hit and miss as to whether they took your order. We didn't stay for dinner - too expensive! The gym had plenty of machines but has no air conditioning and so it could get hot and smelly as many machines are cramped into small areas and corridors. The hotel is centrally located and in a lovely area close to all attractions, many shops, bars and restaurants (a lot cheaper than the Melrose Restaurant!). Will stay again when the refurbishment has finished.

Stayed here for one night in Febuary. Hotel is very well located in Edinburgh, and the decor is good. check in was good (I arrived early and was given a room straight away). Was in an executive room, which was a good size and well decorated.

The lift was not working for the entire stay (luckily was on the 1st floor), there was no hot water in the morning and breakfast was not good. When I complained about the cold shower at reception the answer was, they had had several complaints about it, they thought it was the boiler and the maintenance staff were due in at 9am!!!

not helpful as checked out at 8.50.....
