My husband stayed here using our Tesco ClubCard vouchers - so were very pleased to be having a free weekend! The Hotel is in a very good location, on the pretty Charlotte Square, at the end of Rose St and George Street where you can find lots of restaurants and bars and Princes Street which has all the typical high sreet shops but with a fantastic view of the gardens and Castle! It took about 15 mins to walk from our hotel to the Royal Mile (we cut across at the Museum and then up the steps and through Advocates Close - very picturesque if a bit energetic). It is also a 15 mins walk from Waverley Station so a taxi would be very cheap (less that £5)

Check in was totally painless with very friendly staff. We even managed to check in 2 hours before the standard check in time which was great (although they do store your bag and cases for you if need be). The communal areas downstairs were spacious and there is a spa and gym here although we didn't use it. Our room looked out onto the centre courtyard so was quiet .It was well decoratedand well appointed with a large bathroom and all the trimmings of a 4 star hotel.

Edinburgh is such an amazing city to visit - many things to do during the day and some lovely pubs and restaurants in the evening. Attractions you should not miss are Mary Kings Close (and underground street), The Castle, The Open Top Bus Tour, and the late night Terror Tour by Auld Reekie Tours.

  • Disliked — The price - we stayed for free but this hotel is about £200 per night.

This is my 2nd stay at this hotel. I first went in February with a bunch of friends and as I knew it was a good hotel in a great location I booked again for a birthday treat with my husband.

As I say the location is fantastic, just on Charlotte square at the end of George Street. It s close to the shops, bars and restaurants but it is still in a quiet location so no disturbed sleep.

The hotel foyer is very welcoming and all the staff are very frendly and polite.

The room (469) was nice and big and very clean. The bed was huge and VERY VERY comfortable. All the usual items you expect to find in your hotel room are there and as an added bonus the telly had Sky sports on, which kept my husband busy while I took time to get ready for our evening out.

I didnt make use of the sauna, pool Gym etc so cant pass comment on these.

The bar is very nice and intimate and while the breakfast is delicious, you could probably find cheaper breakfasts in Edinburgh.

All in all, I think this is a great Hotel and will return to it on my next visit to Edinburgh.

went for a special anniversay. Very over priced for an average room, badly needing refurbished. no way is this hotel deserving of 4 stars. very confusing layout. v noisy room, tiny bath. couldnt see the TV from the bed, torn wallpaper and so on. Saving grace was the consierge who was brill. we were very close to leaving and booking into a travel lodge. at least you get what you pay for there. Very disappointing. complained after we left but received no response.

Awful hotel in central Edinburgh location. Expensive, unrefurbished. Small, smelly rooms with antiquated furnishings including horrible carpeting. The location is great and the breakfast is good and filling but the hotel badly needs a complete refurb. Avoid until then.
