I booked to stay at the Kildonan Lodge Hotel after reading the numerous reviews on tripadvisor. I was not disappointed and was only sorry to be staying for just one night. I will definitely be back.
Upon arrival, in the early evening, we were greeted by an extremely friendly and polite young lady, who gave us a thorough and helpful introduction to the property and the city. She also offered us a complimentary room upgrade which we were delighted to accept.
We had booked a triple room and the room we were given exceeded all expectations. I notice another reviewer perceived the rooms as small - ours was enormous. Well and truly more than enough space for the three of us - a huge double bed and king size single, a little writing bureau with fast wireless internet connection, a seperate sitting area and a decent size closet with full size mirror. There is, as other reviewers have remarked, a decanter of sherry on the fireplace and this was well received after our long drive from the lake district. Decor of the room is elegant and traditionally Scottish, and very clean and uncluttered. Bathroom is slightly small compared to the size of the room, but in no means inadequate and this definitely did not detract from the enjoyment of the room.
There is a lovely common lounge area with a well stocked honour bar, and the breakfast room is bright, light and airy. We had a cooked scottish breakfast and a vegetarian scottish breakfast with vegie haggis which was delicious. Staff at breakfast weren't overly chatty but sometimes that is quite nice in the mornings! Complimentary paper and a selection of toast, cereals, fruits and juices.
In terms of location, we actually walked into the city and it was a brisque twenty minute walk. Bus service seemed really good though - they were constantly wizzing by. In terms of value for money, friendliness and a truly enjoyable stay you cannot go past the Kildonan Lodge Hotel.
