Having originally booked into the Number Ten Hotel, I arrived in Edinburgh a little puzzled as to how to check in - the door was locked and the lights were off. I rang the bell, and from two doors down appeared a very cheerful manager, who explained that the buildings were part of the same hotel. He quickly took my bag and proceeded to check in, after which a very friendly porter showed me to my room for the next three nights.
The room was not huge, but adiquite and beautifully furnished in luxurious fabrics and chinese antiques. The bathroom was again small but perfectly formed, finished to a high standard with lovely fluffy white towels and executive toiletries. The cleanliness of the room and hotel as a whole was second to none.
Breakfast was served in the bar area (which may sound strange but was very nice), with an abundant choice of either full Scottish or continental buffet. Everything was fresh and tasty, and again the small touvhes like individual pots of Frank Coopers jam and good quality coffee made all the difference.
Finally the staff were most helpful when I asked for recommendations of places to eat and visit. They are very friendly and efficient and made the stay even more enjoyable. Although not the cheapest establishment, I would definately return and reccomend this place to anyone. Only 10mins walk from Princess Street, it's quietness and character are streets ahead of the large chains like Ramada and Paramount whilst the level of service really was excellent.
