This is my 3rd visit to Howies (I've had lunch at this one and in Aberdeen) and the first time for dinner, and we'll definitely be back. We started with the artichoke and bulgar wheat salad which was fine, though nothing special, and the trio of salmon which was good. Then I had a butternut and gruyere strudel which was tasty and my husband had the red deer special which he said was fantastic. We finished with cranachan and alfogato. Generally the food was very good and the service excellent and friendly. My only minor complaints are that we started with a glass of prosecco each which was not very chilled, nor very bubbly (I have just checked the menu and it says it's a spumante rather than frizzante so I think it should have been more sparkling - in fact the menu description says "refreshing" and "lots of lively bubbles" neither of which was correct for ours unfortunately). The cranachan also, I think, could have been chilled and a little fresher, but the flavours were nice. Prices are reasonable - especially when compared to a few other places in the area. Overall a lovely meal and we will be back.
