“Average Hotel Not 4*”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 5, 2010

This hotel is in an imposing terrace location and within easy walking of Edinburgh city centre. We were upgraded to a twin deluxe room and I was delighted when told this. The room was spacious and clean, however, one set of net curtains had big black marks on it and needed a good wash. The lounging chair and matching stool had black marks on them. In a deluxe room I expected deluxe standards but there were no complimentary biscuits or water provided. There was a large bottle of water on the table which had to be purchased at an astronomical price.

The bathroom was the final straw. There was only a net curtain on the window. We were on the second floor and no-one could see in from the street but we overlooked a very small park with an identical terrace of houses of the other side of the park; approximately 150 yards away. I spoke to housekeeping who assured me that no-one in the park could see in when the light was on as they had checked it out and that many other guests had asked the same questions as me! I stood in the bathroom and clearly saw into the second floor lighted windows of the houses across the park. We were in a deluxe room with no privacy bathroom curtains. Housekeeping stated if I was concerned they would put a sheet across the window which I declined just because of the sheer idiocy of the suggestion. I spent our stay using the bathroom in the dark.

The breakfasts were excellent with as much to eat as you wanted and all the staff were very pleasant.

I booked a room with a high floor away from the elevator.
We were provided with a low floor adjacent to the elevator.
The room was changed for us on request and we received complentary drinks!
The room was very noisey from traffic noise, the basin was blocked , we asked for a morning paper, but this didn't arrive - pretty poor really.
Breakfast was really good.
okay if you get an offer for this hotel, but don't pay full price - you won't get good value for money.
Service was good.

The hotel was easily accessible from the Airport Bus stop, which was less than a five minute walk away from the door to the hotel. It was also very easy to locate the hotel, which was clearly visible down the street.

Upon arrival at the hotel, we were informed that, even though we'd booked two rooms under the same booking, our rooms were not going to be directly adjacent to one another. At first, we thought this would not be a problem, expecting that our rooms might simply be on opposite ends of the same level, or an arrangement similar to that. The rooms however, were in two completely different sections of the hotel. We were told that the hotel was fully booked, and there was no way to put us any closer together. The staff dealt with this matter in a relatively good manner, although no other suggestions were made by them to try and put our rooms a little closer together.

The rooms themselves were very nice and spacious, with large windows overlooking the street. The only problem with this was street noise, but it was easy to ignore.

The hotel is conveniently located near a large number of bus stops, most of which have buses which take you directly into Princes Street or the Royal Mile. The buses come very regularly, about ten to fifteen minutes between each one. So, despite the fact that the hotel is not located right in the heart of Edinburgh, it's only a couple of stops on the bus to get there.

Overall, the hotel was very pleasant to stay at, with excellent rooms and pretty good customer service.

Edinburgh Grosvenor – A Good Hilton.

I have made 2 New Years resolutions this year, one is to stop watching reality TV (except The Apprentice) and the other is to write a TA report on every hotel I stay in. So here goes report number 1………

We were staying in Edinburgh as we had an early flight from Edinburgh Airport the following morning and didn’t want to stay at the airport hotel, this hotel is only 20> 30 minutes to the airport on a weekend morning.
We have stayed at this hotel several times before and have always found the service excellent but hotel bedrooms a little tired, however on this visit the room we were upgraded to as Honours Gold members had been refurbished and was spacious, clean and comfortable.
We didn’t eat in the hotel but did have a couple of drinks when we got back, and the service was fine. The public rooms have all been refurbished to a very good standard in keeping with the building.
The reason that we stayed in this area was so that we could go for a drink and a meal nearby. This Hilton is in a good position near several pubs (not wine bars) and quite a few Indian, Chinese & Ethnic restaurants. We had a couple of drinks in the Haymarket Pub which had a relaxed atmosphere; the back ground music was good and the staff friendly and fast. We then went opposite to the Omar Kyan and had an excellent Indian meal.
If you want a casual “Beer and Curry” night this is a great place to stay. Even if you want to see more of the City Centre I would still recommend this hotel as buses go from the bottom of the road about every 5 minutes.
One small whine, usually Gold members have wine & chocolates in their room, this didn’t happen this time, but all in all a nice stay.

Booked this hotel very cheaply on late rooms-we were booked into the Hilton Grosvenor Club Rooms which is across the road from main hotel. Delighted to find on arrival that we had been upgraded into the main hotel. Our room was a standard double room with very small bathroom with plenty hot water. The room was nice enough, not huge but big enough and lovely and warm. There were very limited toiletries in the bathroom, 1 tiny shower cream, shampoo and conditioner, and no hand soap. Coffee and tea making facilities in the room, again in limited supply we had to ask for more. (take your own biscuits) No mini bar, no problem for us may be for others. Fantastic range of food for breakfast. We appreciated the late check out time of 12.00noon. Although I have made a few "moans" for the price we paid for bed and breakfast we were more than happy with the room and breakfast, all staff we spoke to were very polite and cheerful. However if you want a 4* service, make sure that you do not book into the standard room. At the price we paid we would certainly return to this hotel. Please note that there is no parking at the hotel. Parking available in Morrison Street for £9.50 per 24 hours.

Stayed in this hotel new years eve and new years day !
we stayed in the king junior suite the best room in the hotel this was £462 for two nights, we arrived at the hotel in good time to find out car parking was around the corner on an old building site and was charged at £9.50 per night which you do not get back off the hotel, room was very spacious bathroom little dated, bedroom and living room had space for a fridge but did not ave one, i was shocked to find i did not have free wifi for te amount i paid. we decided we wanted a quick bite to eat before we went to princess street so rang for room service were they told me NO room service on NYE so we ate out, the following tried for room service again NO room service NYD (call me boring but it was freezing outside), then rang for some foam pillows, reception told me ALL housekeeping has gone home so you cannot have any, also the staff attitude in general was very poor and did not make any effort to help you, in my eyes i paid alot of money and new years or not you should have room service and be able to get what you request, i will not be staying in another Hilton again due to this rubbish service
