I have recently returned from a conference in Edinburgh which required two nights accommodation that a colleague booked at the Edinburgh Capital Hotel.

I normally like to book my own accommodation, but he said the place was ideal, so I went along.

Check in was easy with polite and efficient staff. On entering the room, the size amazed me. Plenty of space, large en suite, working area, relaxing area and huge picture windows overlooking the city. It was late evening, so the city lights looked enchanting.

At dinner, I had a lovely crab and king prawn cocktail, full of seafood and very refreshing. My main was a basic, but tasty gammon, egg and fries, but I left the table full. The views over the city in the restaurant make for a lovely dining experience.

Breakfast was very self service, but everything was on offer, the quality was very good and the experience was better than that of many chain hotels.

At all times, staff were helpful and friendly.

The following evening, my colleague and I both tried the Fillet medallion with haggis rosti and mini cottage pie. This was excellent, well presented and worthy of a high class restaurant. We asked for some roasted root veg and a little pot of extra gravy as I though it might benefit from moistening. A superb meal.
My only one gripe, which I voiced to the kind waitresses, was the £1 placed on the bill for that little pot of gravy. A tad mean, considering. These are the differences between "Very Good" and "Excellent" in my opinion. A little goes a long way to a weary traveller. Please take note.

Both nights I had a superb sleep in the firm and gargantuan bed. The room was comfortable, ventilation easy and the city noise wasn't too intrusive.

Overall, I was very impressed. There were a couple of niggles with the plug not being an ideal fit to the sink and the shower needing a bit more power, but for the price, in Edinburgh, I can happily overlook these things.

I will be happy to stay again, whether business or pleasure, and I can't say that about many hotels that I have stayed in.

Room Tip: Higher floors have less A/C noise and better city views.

Dear IDavidRowley,

Thank you for taking the time to post a review for our hotel.

We are truly delighted to read that you enjoyed your stay with us. It does sound like you had a great time at our hotel and that you found our chefs cooking to be excellent on the evenings that you dined with us and at breakfast. Making all guests feel welcome and cared for is a fundamental, something we do work very hard at.

We were also very happy to read that you enjoyed the comfort and standard of your room. The team will be best pleased to receive your recognition, thank you.

We are equally delighted to read that you would stay with us again and look forward to welcoming you back to our hotel in the not too distant future, please do not hesitate to contact us direct as it would be our pleasure to look after your arrangements with our great rates and personal attention. +44 (0)131 535 9988

Very nice lobby and restaurant. Looks brand new and restaurant has amazing view over mountains and Firth of Forth. Room was good size but no amenities except for hairdryer and some low budget liquid soap (for hair and body). No soap bars, body lotion, cotton wool or anything else that you normally get in a hotel. You have to either purchase or go to front desk to collect. Price was very good though, which is probably why there was nothing in the rooms. If you have your own toiletries then it's a pretty good deal.

We stayed here for our first few nights as part of a 7 week tour of the UK, from December 2011. Unless there has been dramatic change in management this hotel stands out as the best value accommodation we found across Ireland, Scotland and England. The room and bathroom were comfortable, modern and clean. The service was outstanding - staff fell over themselves making us happy and the breakfasts and dinner meals were beautiful. If you don't mind a 10 minute bus ride to central Edinburgh we cannot recommend this hotel highly enough. An absolute bargain as we paid only 48 euro per night. This hotel was much more comfortable than 5 star hotels we stayed in in London. If we HAVE to be picky: I thought the room was a bit dark (ie not enough lighting) and my scottish partner says the potato pancakes were better in Derry. Go figure! We are talking about a longer visit to beautiful Scotland and will definately choose to stay at the Best Western Capital.

Just got back from a 3 night stay in Edinburgh from the 2nd - 5th November and this was an absolutely brilliant hotel. The staff were always helpful and polite and were very welcoming when we arrived. The room itself was very spacious and comfortable and the amenities in the hotel such as the restaurant, room service and pool were brilliant. This is a great location if you want to get into the city as there is a bus stop around the corner and its £1.40 for an adult single or £3.50 for a day ticket.
I will definitely be going back to Edinburgh (such a beautiful city) and this hotel.

Dear Jaz0810,

Thank you for taking the time to post a review for our hotel and acknowledging our hotel as you have.

I was also very happy to read that you enjoyed the comfort and standard of your room along with our dining and leisure facilities. The team will be best pleased to have been given your recognition.

I would very much agree with your comments regarding our location and the frequent and easy bus service to and from the city. Lothian buses do operate an excellent service making all parts of the city very accessible for both leisure and business travellers.

Hello all, I would first like to thank laterooms.com for the offering of such a fantastic hotel. The airport at Edinburgh first of all is very impressive, the best I have been at, (and I have seen a fair few). The speed of the bag collection is fairly quick, the organisation is simple and staff are extremely helpful. You can then get a taxi which costs around £12 but if you find a blue bus called 'Airlink' a single ticket for adults is £3.50 with return at £6, children were around £2 single and around £4 return. These buses go to the town centre but if the Best Western is where you are heading to, then you can get off at a bus stop just passed McDonald's then catch a number 26 which stop right outside the hotel. Tickets cost £1.40 single for anywhere as no destination is told to the driver. All day tickets are £3.50 per adult and £2 for children, but as what we did, you can get a number 1 or 26 into town, then have a walk down to the Princes Street mall and turn right towards a shop called 'Lothian Buses'. This is where you can get an extremely beneficial bus pass for the week for just £17 per person which, if you are to use the bus frequently, is vital.

Moving onto the hotel, when you walk into the hotel the look is very welcoming. The reception staff give you an entrance with a warming smile on a cold October evening. They quickly check you in and offer to answer any question you may have such as buses to get, restaurants etc. When we got our room, number 47, we opened the door and immediately thought that it was well worth the payment. The beds were made immaculately, bathrooms spotless and with a plasma television on the wall with satellite, perfect for those pouring rain days which, for us, didn't occur. The other facilities such as the gym and swimming pool were top notch. Very clean, heated and well looked after. The gym was air conditioned and fairly equippd with running machines, weights and cycling machines.

The breakfast was superb with an unlimited fry-up available everyday with cereals also. The views outside the windows while eating your scrumptious food and/or drinking your coffee/juice as you can see the airport with the planes taking off and landing.

Well that is my review done, thanks for reading and enjoy your stay.

Room Tip: We had number 47 which was perfect.

We stayed in the best western for three nights at the end of October as we were visiting for a wedding. We arrived late on the Thursday night and were efficiently allocated a room by the friendly reception staff. After a quick drink in the bar we headed off to bed but got woken up at the crack of dawn by doors banging and our neighbours above walking around there room. The soundproofing in this hotel is terrible, unfortunately we didn't have one good nights sleep despite using earplugs.
On the plus side the staff were all very helpful & the leisure facilities were great.
However, we ordered room service on the Saturday night & when we called to place the order the restaurant staff informed us they were too busy and would call us back! Not very professional, however within ten minutes they did return the call. I would personally advise avoiding the pizza on the room service menu. £12 for a pizza that you could buy for about £3 in the local supermarket!
Breakfast the previous morning was also interesting, two members of staff trying to clear & allocate us a table at once left us wandering around the restaurant without anywhere to sit as we were moved from one area to the other! Once we were finally shown to a table the restaurant manager kindly offered his apologies but again not the most professional of service.
I don't want to sound too negative about the hotel, it was great value, the rooms were clean & comfy & on the whole the staff were great.
