The location is great, right on Princes Street, with superb views, and if you're in a street-facing room on the 7th floor you can climb out the window onto the balcony.

However I didn't have a comfortable stay. The room stank of smoke (I was later told that they had "really good air freshener" that I should have asked for - but if that's the case, why didn't they use it?) My single room was tiny but cosy enough, but the bed was uncomfortable with a peculiarly pancake-like duvet.

Internet via the tv or btopenzone (at a price) in the bar. The bar was ok - small but a good place to do a bit of work over a drink or whatever. Breakfast was pretty good - a large buffet. I guess for what my company paid (£105) it wasn't a bad deal - but not a hotel to get excited about.

Awful, ugly decor and this was in the "recently updated" Castle view room. Very noisy with window open as it is on a major street. Double glass helped a little.
Not clean. dated. horrible lighting. Uncomfortable bed. yukky bath/shower with crappy towels. Rude staff. Actually many were very nice but one was rude enough for them all.
The location was good. The front doors locked after a certain time of night and the key card never worked to open it.
also for any guests with limited movement, the ground floor elevator was also shut off at night and one must walk up one flight of stairs to the lobby level before accessing the elevator. Not that great if you are just tired either.
I never ate breakfast or anything there as the restaurant looked disgusting with old carpet and dated furnishings.
Really annoying and overpriced internet. Don't bother.
Pros: The location was good. There was a great view.

Although the hotel is located in a prime location, the rooms are not what you would expect from a Ramada hotel. We stayed there for 4 days and two of those days we were awoken by fire alarms. One of these triggered alarms forced us to evacuate the hotel for over an hour. Among the other "pleasantries" we encountered were a bathroom door that didn't shut and a toilet ran constantly, and last but not least BLOOD ALL OVER the close line over the tub. The Internet service is outdated and expensive, and the breakfast was mediocre at best.

We stayed here on a 3 day weekend break to Edinburgh.

As we arrived by train, the location could not have been better as it was literally across the street from the main station

Our room was very clean and comfortable. We had a nice view of the castle and although they are in the process of refurbing the outside of the building, the scaffolding didnt get in the way

Staff were friendly and welcoming and the room was cleaned each day.

We had a flat screen TV, usual tea and coffee facilities and nice powerful shower

Breakfast was excellent - plenty of options from full cooked buffet breakfast to cereal and fresh fruit etc.

Its a great location as its right in the middle of the city and ideal base to explore on a sightseeing trips

I would stay here again if I was returning to the city - can't complain about anything.

Is the scaffolding a permanent feature.

This is a decent Travel lodge but certainly not a hotel so far as standard/feature rooms are concerned. Our room was termed a feature room but what the feature was supposed to be;apart from the scaffolding;I've no idea.No comfort, just a low back office type armchair. The only draw space is taken up with tea/coffee acoutrements and PC/laptop paraphenalia. At least the double bed was comfortable on one side.Meagre provisions in the bathroom/toilet with` wartime` toilet paper.Half size sheets are false economy, you need twice as much.Breakfast was adequate but if booking a deal which includes dinner.don't;it's a poor selection for the money and don't forget the added VAT and built-in gratuity which is not included in the package. The deal is for food to the value of £20 only but you finish up with a bill for another £8.45 for two..The choice then becomes even more restrictive. The evening waiting staff were superb and a complete contrast to those in the morning.A "Good morning" and a smile would not go amiss. It appears that the lifts serving seven floors sometimes work.Servicing stopover coach tours seems to be a priority which detracts from the service afforded other guests.Again,a contrast between the reception staff on arrival and those on departure. There must I'm sure be better hotels available.

  • Liked — Nothing really
  • Disliked — The travel lodge type set up.
