Pretty much what you expect from a Mercure or any of the similar chain hotels. Good room, tiny bit small but perfectly fine. Crap view of a brick wall but did not matter. Toilet didn't flush very well, but shower was fine and bed was comfortable. No air con, but I doubt you need that in Scotland very often - we definitely didn't.
Only had high tea at the restaurant downstairs - this was amazing and great value for money. Would highly recommend.
Hotel is close to the gardens, really close to a lot of shops, has heaps of public transport near by (buses and about 3 minutes walk from the main train station). Many tourist things nearby also. We had breakfast at a Pret a Manger just around the corner each day which was very cheap and convenient.
Took a while to convince the person checking us in that we didn't have a Postcode they could use (we're from NZ!) but other than that the service was great.
Good place to stay.
