I booked this hotel from a late deal website as a treat for my husband's 30th birthday and do not regret my choice for a second! We arrived slightly earlier than the appointed check-in time of 2pm and were met on the street by one of the concierges who relieved us of our baggage (1 bag and 1 shirt!) and escorted us to reception. We were dealt with swiftly and in a friendly manner by the staff who were quick to ask if we needed help with reservations for dinner or advice on what to see and do.Another concierge, Scott, showed us to our (huge!) room on the 2nd floor and helped us to settle in. He showed us all of the facilities and helped to fix the TV which was not working. He got us a map to show us where our restaurant for the evening was.We had a lovely lunch in the brasserie (entered by the back door!) which whilst pricey, was absolutely delicious. Service was attentive without being intrusive. We spent a leisurely day around Edinburgh and returned to pamper ourselves before dinner. I enjoyed a long soak in the fabulous bathroom in the previously mentioned bath with taps in the middle. No scalding here as did not rub up against them! Molton Brown toiletries and soft bath towels and robes all helped me to feel relaxed.Had a wonderful sleep in a comfortable bed and the following morning ventured down to the health club via the lift. We were welcomed and shown the facilities. Had a swim and a jacuzzi. I loved the swimming pool although my husband thought it was a little too dimmly lit! The only disappointment in the health club was a ridiculously over-priced breakfast menu (?2.50 for toast)..although when we complained about the quality we were given a 50% discount. All in all a fabulous stay and we will not hesitate to return. We would even take our baby daughter with us as the room was easily big enough to accomodate a cot at one end with us being able to have our own space at the other. Baby sitting services are available as well as other child friendly extras.
