“My First Time In Edinburgh Made More Memorable By The Scotsman”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 7, 2013

I recently had the opportunity to visit Edinburgh for the first time and after much research, decided to stay at The Scotsman. The hotel proved to be one of the nicest parts of my trip.

From the welcome of the concierge Ivan to the gracious staff at check-in, the staff in The North Bridge Brasserie, and the overall team in general, I can't recall when I've encountered a staff as warm and friendly as here.

The hotel itself is a beautiful building and will appeal to anyone who has an interest in architecture. The hotel is also immaculately clean. The room I had was large, with a very comfortable bed and a large bathroom. There were various tartan designs throughout the hotel, including my room, but done very tasteful and subtle, which gave it a very elegant ambiance - warm and comfortable.

The food in the North Bridge brasserie was very good, and the service there as gracious as the hotel.

This is one of the finest hotels I've ever stayed in and one that I would love to experience again. Thanks for a marvelous stay!

Room Tip: I was there on a weekend, and the hotel sits adjacent to a busy street. When the pubs close on a Fri...

We booked one night on-line and liked it so much, we booked a second night once we were there. We took the train in from London and the hotel is right across the street from the station. Unfortunately, we did not know we could come in on the bottom floor (not well marked) and walked our suitcases up the long, steep street to the main entrance. Our room was large, quiet and well appointed. The location is perfect...so close to everything with tons of restaurants and pubs to choose from. We felt it was a great value- reasonably priced for such a lovely hotel and attentive staff.

Have just returned from a two day trip to Edinburgh. We stayed at The Scotsman, where we were upgraded to The Penthouse. Wow! The hotel is ideally located to enjoy all that Edinburgh has to offer and the staff were delightful, from the doorman to the servers in the dining room. Breakfast was plentiful and very varied - there was certainly no shortage of choice. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel.

We stayed here to culminate a holiday in Scotland. The Scotsman is ideally located for walking around the city, since it is smack dab in the center of the Royal Mile. It is also perfect for reaching transportation, as it is walking distance to the train station.
The room was amazing. Nicely decorated, high ceilings, spacious bathroom, and with lovely views of the city. We thought the wood paneling was a nice touch in keeping with the age of the building. The elegance makes you feel special, and yet the prices are affordable and reasonable. Conveniences such as heated mirrors that don't fog in the shower room, plush robes & slippers, expansive minibar, courtesy shoe polishing all point to consideration of the guest and their comfortable stay.
The staff is very courteous and accommodating. They seem to be genuinely concerned that you enjoy your stay with them, and to take pride in working at such a reputable establishment. They don't wait for you to ask, they proffer suggestions in observance of your preferences and needs. That to me is a sign of quality staffing. Hats of to management.
The excellence continues in the kitchen. Although breakfast is a buffet, the selections are wide ranging, tasty, and hot items are cooked fresh at your request.
I highly recommend this Hotel and will definitely return.

Excellent!

We stayed at the Scotsman between the 27th and 29th March for a birthday treat. The location is excellent, being moments from the royal mile and from the Airlink coach stop. It’s an ideal location to explore the amazing city of Edinburgh. From the moment you walk through the door you are greeted with attentive, efficient and exceptionally friendly staff. The doormen Ivor and Nick we’re full of information about Edinburgh and couldn’t do enough for you. I found the staff to be the hotels best asset, we requested numerous items from reception (ice, wifi passwords, extra pillows) and everything was dealt with immediately.

Our room was an editor’s suite; we had a large bedroom and a smaller turret room with desk and writing equipment. The room was very impressive and the bathroom spotlessly clean. We had superb views overlooking Waverley station, noise was not an issue with the secondary glazing. Extra touches in the room such as the umbrella, slippers, robe and monopoly board really added to the experience. We loved the turn down service at night, bed was made and water was left in the room which helps when you’ve had a night out in Edinburgh’s numerous bars. I was a little disappointed with the condition of the room, needs just general tidying up with paintwork and a change of carpet but in no way did this spoil my stay at the hotel.

We used the spa area during our stay and it’s excellent, the pool is really unusual being made out of stainless steel, it’s like swimming in a saucepan! Towels we’re provided for guests of the hotel.

The hotel is full of charm and character; it does need some minor renovation to bring it to an excellent standard. I would make this my hotel of choice when visiting Edinburgh again

We stayed for 3 nights in March. Booked though booking.com. An historic hotel in the heart of Old Town and a few steps to the Royal Mile and Princes St. The one complaint was the TV position was inconvenient to watch as it was a Plasma which is not good to view at an angle. The staff was very accommodating and the restaurant was good. We had a great view of Calton Hill.
