Stayed two nights on a B&B deal.

A large rambling hotel in a quiet suburb of Edinburgh commanding a very good view across the hills. If you don't want to walk/drive into the city centre (approximately 2 miles) there is a very good bus service from the main road below the hotel.

The hotel appears to have a very grand opinion of itself and charges accordingly. I am sure some of the larger rooms are impressive with space and views, but the routine, smaller rooms are poor value considering the hotel's distance outside the city centre; small and no views. As mentioned by other reviewers, it needs a make over; decor is tired and, more importantly, is needing a good clean. The small bathrooms (shower room actually) was dirty in parts. Loose wires everywhere feeding the small TV, kettle and tea/coffee making facities are cluttered.

Breakfast was very Scottish with grease and stodge abounding - little finesse in the presentation and service. OK if you like that sort of thing.

Fire alarm went off on a Sunday morning, false alarm thank goodness - staff appeared disorganised and almost absent.

There are much better hotels in Einburgh for the price.

I can only say this Hotel needs to re -decorate the rooms. It was shabby and needed up dating. The bathroom was very tiny and to squeeze myself onto the toilet good job i was not a larger person.
There were 6 people eating at breakfast with approx 20 plus tables, were not cleared. I watched the waiter bring things to the table but had no interest in clearing and setting up for other guests. It certainly was not what you would call busy like there were a constant queue of people wanting this and that. Just lazy incompetent staff who had no idea at all.

I was always taught take something out bring something back. The tables were a disgrace not being cleared, and there was no reason that, it could have run smoothly. I asked for grapefruit to be filled up and i asked 3 times ,and it was not there was a lot for them to do, but it appeared that there was no concentration with the staff.

I attended a conference in the hotel that morning, Lunch arrived no plates came, Coffee and tea arrived NO cups, cups arrived no saucers in fact they never arrived at all. No spoons to stir with surely these people need to be Mystery Shopped or at least the management need to get there finger out and get there act together.

WHAT A SHAMBLES. totally disorganised.

This was my second stary at the Braid Hills; I stand by my first review.

I struggle to recognise the hotel from some of the critical reviews others have posted.

Yes it is a little old fashioned but it is clean and welcoming. Reception is friendly and efficient and the rooms well appointed.

It would certainly be my hotel of choice in Edinburgh!

I found the hotel really shabby and run down. The reception area was dated, with faded carpet and fraying furniture. The room was even worse, there was an intercom phone in the bathroom which had fallen apart and was hanging off the wall. The bathroom was tiny and not particularly clean. It seems the cleaners only pay attention to the places they have to, such as the sink and toilet and had turned a blind eye to the skirting boards and bottom of sink which were filthy.
The bedroom was far too over patterned for my taste (2 different wallpaper designs, a swirly bed cover with mismatched curtains).
I was glad i was only staying here for one night.

Stayed here as I was attending a dinner which was being held in the hotel. The room itself was clean, a bit small but big enough for what I needed. The bathroom on the other hand was tiny! The lavatory was a nightmare - stuck in a very narrow section of the bathroom which made it difficult to get to. Shower was ok - wasn't too bothered that there wasn't a bath.

Breakfast was ok but a bit disorganised. I asked for a kipper and fried eggs and got a full breakfast - almost felt as if I was being accused of changing my order when I asked for it to be taken back and put right - although the waiter did apologise.

Overall I would say it was average - the size of the bathroom pulled it down a peg.
