On arrival at Edinburgh Airport I was a little confused. I had read about the 'complimentary bus' on the hotels website and stood outside for about 20mins waiting for the bus. After 20 mins I went inside and asked the tourist information office. He informed me the bus was 'on demand', I could either call the hotel and demand it or walk. As the rain had stopped I walked. It took me 7 mins, which with one small hand luggage case was fine. If you have more luggage then demand the bus as you will need to cross a couple of busy roads.
On arrival at the hotel I was pleasantly surprised by its modern reception area with car lounge, and bar area. The gentleman who checked me in was very professional and soon found my Hilton Honours details I had forgotten them!
On the way to my bedroom I was also pleasantly surprised with the modern corridors. On opening the door to my room I was a little disappointed compared to the rest of the hotel. Whilst my room had a modern TV the rest of the room was from the 80's! The furniture is well out of date, the duvets on the beds are a little thin, and the bathroom needs a re-furb. The wardrobe is open plan with no door. Ignoring the fact that the room was out dated and the duvet was thin, the room was clean and tidy, and everything worked. I also love the toilettries in full service Hiltons and this one did not disappoint.
We chose to eat out so I can not comment on the restaurant facilities.
I used the Wi-Fi at the hotel, for free, in public areas. If you are having issues connecting with your I-Pod/I-Pad then check your settings and ensure cookies are set to 'accept always'. I had issues, called BT Openzone and they sorted it by telling me that info.
In the evening and the next morning I used the gym facilities. Despite me being there at peak times the gym was quiet and I did not have to queue for any equipment. The equipment is up to date, in good order, and easy to use if you are a regular gym user. The pool was also good.
Overall despite the bedrooms being out of date, the hotel was clean and tidy, with modern public areas. The service was good, and its location to the airport is excellent. I have stayed at many airport hotels in and around Heathrow and Gatwick and this one is better than those as airport hotels go.
