My husband and I stayed at this hotel for an anniversary weekend break. If you don't mind staying a little way from the city, it is a beautiful place to stay. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. You can catch a bus into Edinburgh, just outside the hotel gates. Our rooms were very well furnished. Super comfy beds, bright and modern rooms. Breakfast was delicious. The only downside to this hotel is the price of the drinks and food. There is a pub about 5 minutes away that is very friendly and has much bette prices. Loved this hotel and would use it again if in Edinburgh.

Lets start with the good points!
Food in the lodge @ night lovely, wedding meal beautiful,
rooms old fashioned but nice.. Grounds beautiful, st marys church lovely.
Bad points.........well lets start with the staff, then again i think i'll
leave that till the end, food at lunch-time cold, however ate because we were hungry, drinks are way over-priced, price of food over-priced also, if you need to visit the toilet in the lodge you
have to go through the changing area, were everyone is getting changed to go swimming, not something i care to see before i eat, (ladies & gents separate). I am no prude, however you try explaining to your old aunt and grandmother that they may see a few naked bodies jaunting about before they eat.. Now to the staff, one word can not sum up the way i feel about them, well most of them, lots do not understand a word your saying because they are foreign, which begs the question, how do they pass health and safety regulations, if they do not understand us.
I had to put up with some staff being rude, and totally obnoxious, also wanting to argue over something they clearly knew better than me, and continually said i was wrong on at least 3 occasions about the same matter, to be honest i had given up at this point, i was there to relax and have fun not get into an argument. All in all, if you want to spend lots of money on drink and food, and want to have huge disagreements with some of the staff, oh and walk round the grounds/play golf, then its right up your alley...5* its not, premier hotel its not, certified wedding and event planner( if they turn up on ur special day), enjoy...

We stayed at this hotel, using our Marriott Rewards Points, from July 5th to July 10th and my wife and I were married in the Castle Room on July 7th. The staff at the hotel was all very friendly, and outstanding, in helping us set up our big day prior to our arrival on July 5th. Our room was clean but I was a little disappointed in some things about our room. First, no air conditioning; while the weather was cool during our stay it was also very humid and raining which created a lot of moisture in the air. A desk fan was provided in the room but it remained very humid in the room during our stay. Second, the mini-bar in our room was fully stocked but the refrigerator the items were stored in was malfunctioning which caused the cold items to be hot and unsafe to consume. We told the front desk of the problem but nothing was done to repair the refrigerator during our stay. Someone did come to re-stock the mini-bar but we told the person we hadn't used anything because everything inside was hot; they said they would tell maintenance of the problem but still nothing was done fix it during our stay. The third issue with our room involved the sink in our bathroom which would not drain properly... it was very slow to drain. We had asked them to fix it four out of the five nights of our stay. We were finally able to drain the water out of the bathroom sink on our last night at the hotel. Aside from theses annoyances we did enjoy the peace and quiet of the location... being on a golf course and the staff was very friendly too. However, I don't think I'd stay here again, if for nothing else, but to have an air conditioned room.

  • Liked — The grounds surrounding the hotel; the peace and quiet.
  • Disliked — No air conditioning in room.

This hotel was part of a package we booked through exitnow.ca and was part of an AirTransat holiday. We had a rental car and so getting into the city was not a problem. There was a Park and Ride located very close to the hotel (2 minute drive or so) and for a pound you could take the bus right to Princes Street.

The rooms were very comfortable and the bed was like heaven! Heated towel racks were an added bonus.

We had an early flight out the last morning and arranged for room service to be brought to our room at 6:00am. It was ontime, still hot, and very tasty!

There is also an exercise facility and pool however we were too busy exploring the city to check it out. Very beautiful hotel.

Very few good things to say about this Hotel bar it has nice grounds and apparently a good golf course.

Room was clean and tidy but the bathroom was a mess with broken tiles and taps that were coming out of the wall.

Mini bar was never restocked during our 3 nights at the hotel.

Room service menu is a joke (no selection) not to mention it took over an hour to get a bottle of still water to our room.

We left the hotel feeling that really £150 per night is far too much to charge for what really should be no more than a 2 star hotel.

Will never go back that for sure.

  • Liked — Comfy Bed
  • Disliked — Dirty bathroom, broken tiles etc...Lack of attention to detail, not a 4 star hotel
