There are some wonderful things about this property, and it's hard to find a complaint. As an American travelling in Scotland, I found this to have some of the comforts that I'm used to, which sometimes differs in European hotels. I suppose that's what you get when you stay with an American chain overseas.
The location itself is phenomenal. You are a cab or bus ride away from downtown Edinburgh, which is highly convenient. The property is setlled on acres upon acres of beautiful land with two golf courses. Rooms seem pretty new with very nice, modern, and clean bathrooms. Finding your room can be a bit of a maze, and it's a little onerous to get your bags to the front desk if needed.
Service was average for a Marriott, which is a good thing. Concierege and front desk were helpful with questions about getting around in the city.
Golf: We played only the PGA course, which was really long. Pretty view, but I would recommend going elsewhere for the golf. Gleneagles is inland and is great. The best way to do it would be to play the courses on the coast, such as St. Andrews, N. Berwick, Muirfield, etc. Spend your money there.
Food: Dinner was not that good and would be my biggest complaint. We had three different dishes for dinner and none of them were good. Breakfast was fine, nothing special, but acceptable. We all had lunches that were fine as well (sandwiches).
