I have just returned from my 4th stay in the Apex City within the last 12 months and in just that short time I can see it's standards sliding dramatically.
I reserved and paid for an Executive King room which should have had a Castle View, Bathrobes and a safe. I got a tiny pathetic view of the side of the castle if I pressed my face against the window, NO safe and NO bathrobes. Basically I paid an extra £20 a night for NOTHING! How hard is to read a reservation?
The room was NOT clean:
1. There was dust on the lightbox above the bed which I could smell when the light was turned on for any length of time. I shouldn't have to dust my own room for crying out loud.
2. The DVD player, kettle, tea tray and hairdryer all needed a VERY good clean. They were filthy.
3. One of my supposidly clean coffee cups was stuck to the saucer with old coffee when I tried to pick it up.
4. The plugs and carpet edges were filthy with dust. My room wasn't vacuumed once in 4 days.
5. Not ONCE was my linen changed during my 4 night stay.
6. Getting the complimentary bottles of water left in your room was hit and miss. I drank both of mine all four days but only got them replaced twice.
The supposed air conditioning is nothing more than a decorative box on the wall because it obviously doesn't work. The windows only opened 1 inch and I'm not kidding. It wasn't particularly warm in Edinburgh during my stay but my room was so uncomfortable with dead heat I found myself dreading going back to the hotel.
The smell of vomit in the lift all day Saturday and Sunday was revolting and obviously wasn't noticed by anyone who matters.
Check-out was fairly pleasant althought I would have appreciated a simple "goodbye" rather than be handed my receipt and given a rather vacant look.
I didn't eat at the hotel so I can't comment on that.
INTERNET ACCES!!!!! £15 for 24 hours???? ARE YOU KIDDING ME!?!?!
I can think of a dozen other hotels in Edinburgh that are cheaper to stay in and aren't letting their standards slip as rapidly as the Apex. If you're considering staying here please do your research and don't say you haven't been warned. I won't be back to Edinburgh until December and don't see any reason why I would stay there again unless I hear things have improved radically.
