Stayed here on a group tour. Excellent location near Edinburgh Castle. Very friendly front desk staff. Rooms were sleek and modern. Huge separate walk in shower and tub. Beds were very comfortable, and windows opened to let in the cool evening air. Toiletries were large sized spa products which smelled heavenly. After several days of drying my hair in other hotels with no mirror in which to look, I appreciated the thoughtfulness of a hair dryer stationed beneath a large mirror!

I opted to stay at this hotel for 3 nights after spending days reading other people's reviews on hotels in Ediburgh. I went for this hotel purely because it had a much higher percentage of postive reviews. I just did not know what to expect but was not dissapointed at all. I felt that having made my decision relying on other people's experiences that I must offer mine too.

Check in was swift, staff were friendly, room appeared to be small at first but then realised that it was due to number of features in the room. The room was clean. The additional facilities such as the minibar fridge, TV, CD/DVD player were useful. You can hire DVD's from the hotel (same prices as Blockbusters) but I had taken my own favourite DVDs so would recommend you do the same unless you have an 18 hour day plan. The Bed was very soft and felt I was sinking in but then again I am used to a hard bed but did sleep well on the first night. Only problem was the third night as it was humid, the room got very hot and couldn't sleep. Wasn't aware until checkout that there is no air conditioning in the hotel at all and that I could have requested a fan from reception- so please bear this in mind.

The great thing about the hotel was the location - it is 15 mins walk away from Lothian Road where you will find many shops, cinema, bars and eating places. There a plenty of pubs (not that it mattered to me) and places to eat outside the hotel and along the walk to Lothian Road. It was noisy at night but then again, having the opportunity to see where the hotels I reviewed were located in the city centre, I think noise would be a problem for most as Edinburgh is a buzzing capital city, day and night.

I would probably come back to this hotel due to the location and would recommed to all my friends.

If you have never stayed in Edinburgh before you can stop looking for a hotel - you have just found the perfect location. The hotel is in the heart of the City and close to all the main tourist attractions including the castle (you can see it out of your bedroom window). The staff were all really friendly and could not do enough for us. Our bedroom was clean, smart and had lots of little extras including a nice little rubber duck for the kids! We ate dinner in the hotel restaurant (I think it was called Agua) and the meal totally lived up to its AA rosette award. The food was amazing and the staff actually looked like they enjoyed working there (something you don't see very often these days). Breakfast was included in our rate and we all enjoyed the 'eat as much as you like' cold buffet followed by a full Scottish breakfast. All in all I can not fault this hotel. We travel a lot and have stayed all over the world and can honestly say that the next time we visit Edinburgh we know where we will be booking.

I've stayed at the Apex City several times in the past and always had good memories of my stay so was slightly aprehensive about returning after an absence of at 3-4 years.

However, I needn't have worried. The hotel is immaculate, the service smooth and staff happy and friendly.

We were upgraded to a deluxe room with a castle view, which was excellent, although having stayed here before I know that even the standard rooms are perfect.

Our room was huge with a king-size bed, great bath and shower-room and ample wardrobe space. Also very important for me - every room has an iron and ironing board so you don't have to call reception every time you want to iron something - this always irritates me about other hotels!

Nice little touches like in-room DVD player, jellybeans and a cute rubber duck make a stay at the Apex even more memorable and really set it apart from the rest.

To my mind, you just can't beat this hotel for price, service, location and overall experience. Yes, I know there are other good hotels in Edinburgh with perhaps more history, tradition etc, but give me the Apex any time.

We also enjoyed a great full Scottish breakfast served in the bedroom and would recommend it. Although it was about £10pp, for once it's a good hotel breakfast worth paying for.

I think you get the message by now - a great stay at the Apex City! Would definitely recommend.

L

PS other than breakfast we didn't eat or drink in the hotel on this occasion, but from past trips I can recommend the hotel restaurant and bar - great cocktails!

The Apex City Hotel on the Grassmarket is an excellent place to stay whether you are a business traveller or looking for a base to exploring the city from.

The views of the castle are to die for!

I have stayed at the Apex City Hotel on many occassions over the past six months, and what makes it my favourite hotel in Edinburgh is the staff. They are professional, courteous and caring and go out of their way to make sure that your stay is special.
