We had booked 3 rooms and luckily two were ready when we arrived before noon so we were able to start enjoying our break straight away. The rooms were spotless and nicely decorated with everything you would need including a powerful hairdryer that plugged in near the mirror(something not all hotels seem to manage!!), comfortable seats and hospitality tray. The bathroom had a bath, separate shower and lots of fluffy white towels, Elemis toiletries etc.
We had telephoned the hotel a few days earlier to ensure a bottle warmer and steriliser would be available as well as a travel cot for our 9 month old granddaughter. I had noted on a previous review that Apex supply these if requested. There was some confusion initially but I received a call from central reservations to let me know that everything was arranged. On arrival these were in the room fresh and clean ready for use.
We had 2 rooms on the second floor with possibly the worst views ever (black corrugated storage building? feet from the window). However, with a baby we didn't have time to look out the window and it was very quiet! These rooms had air-con and heating controls; electronic safe and fridge. The family room on the third floor didn't have a safe or air-con which seemed odd as it was the same configuration as our rooms. They had a view of some grass though - so lucky them. The sofa bed was made up for our 9 year old but it was so uncomfortable, she considered sleeping on the floor.
Despite these somewhat negative comments, the hotel was great. We were close to the National Museum, the castle, lots of great eating places and pubs. There was a real buzz about the area and it felt very safe. The younger family members also enjoyed the use of the pool at the International just down the road.
Reception staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast waiting staff were exceptionally nice and nothing was a bother to them. Breakfast was excellent - cold buffet plus hot breakfast cooked to order including speciality dishes such as eggs benedict, eggs florentine and pancakes with bacon and maple syrup as well as the usual items. Between us we tried most of them and they were all delicious. We were always being asked if we needed more drinks or toast and never needed to chase anything up despite the restaurant being busy.
On checkout, the housekeeping supervisor and reception staff asked if we were happy with our stay and we all agreed we had thoroughly enjoyed our visit and would definitely return (but maybe request a better view next time).

Thank you for taking the time to write such a comprehensive review following your recent visit. I appreciate your feedback and am really pleased you enjoyed your stay.
Within the hotel we have rooms with great views of the Castle as well as exceptionally quite rooms to the rear of the building. Generally when we have families staying with us we try to allocate rooms at the back of the hotel so that young children can get a good sleep at night, and Mum and Dad can enjoy their break with us. If you stay again and would prefer a room with a view please just let us know when you make your booking and we will do our best to accommodate.
I am sorry that your daughter found the sofa bed uncomfortable. I will make a point of asking my Head Housekeeper to check all the sofa beds as they are all quite new and should be in good working order.
Thank you again for your review and I do hope we can welcome you back in the near future.
