If you're used to the Ibis brand and standard of amenities then you'll be satisfied and perhaps impressed by this hotel.

It isn't a luxury property by any means, but offers great value for money when you consider the location in the centre of the Royal Mile in the heart of the Scottish capital.

One of the real assets here is the staff. In terms of service, politeness and helpfulness they beat some hotels at three times the price!

The rooms have air conditioning, small colour tv, telephone with charges that aren't too extortionate, and there's 24-hour room service which is also fairly reasonably priced. Plus there's a buffet continental-style breakfast for £5.25.

Within the context of this budget brand, the only criticism I have is that the mattress is of foam construction and after four nights sleeping on it, I found the support a little lacking.

I stayed at the Ibis, Edinburgh at the end of August 2007 as I had to attend a three day conference. I selected the Hotel Ibis based on my budget and its location, just off the Royal Mile.

I was given a room on the fifth floor which was no more than functional. The room was of an average size and appeared to have been refurbished by the use of furniture only. A new TV stand and shelving units have been placed against old and tired walls desperately needing a lick of paint. The bathroom also looked tired and the general state of the hotel corridors and room doors was also poor. There are no real restaurant facilities and the breakfast is basic, self-service continental fare - the only 'hot' option is toast!

On the upside, the staff were friendly and helpful and the hotel is in a great location - but don't expect more than very basic hotel/hostel accomodation. I have no regrets about selecting this hotel but I won't be returning in a hurry.

We have stayed here each year for five years during the Edinburgh Festival. It's fantastic value for money, situated just off the Royal Mile at the heart of activity, and the staff are great - friendly and helpful. The breakfast is also good value, and everything is lovely and fresh. Watch out for rooms at the front of the hotel though, as they are really noisy outside during the festival. If you want to go at Festival time, you need to book in January for the following year i.e. 18 months in advance, but no problem at other times.

We booked the hotel here so we can be close to the Fringe Festival. Worked out perfectly. The hotel was not far from the train station and it was a great walk to get to the hotel. Yes the hotel is near a square where there is activity, but the activity is street performers and it was great to watch them do their stuff. We had a great walk around the town square, very easy to get to the Rebus Walking Tour, easy to get to all the pubs and restaurants and all the theater performances that were going on. Our room was clean, large, good size bathroom, we had a tub that we were able to take a good relaxing bath. Good clean sheets. TV helped too so we can just relax. Personalized wake-up call helped. They had a luggage storage area for us. Got great directions to other attractions in the town square. Not far from Endiburgh castle and the museum. Would return no problem.
