“exemplary service in a beautiful setting”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 21, 2010

having stayed here before it was nice to find the service and stature of the hotel hadnt changed. the room was gorgeous huge 4 poster bed (mirrored roof to it a bit off putting) absolutely spotless, staff a definate plus point, couldnt be to helpful, we ate in the hotel both nights, once in the restaurant (kerries) and once in the bar.. both excellent!

the 1 tip i would give is that the car parking is limited to arrive early if you can!
another tip, if you are travelling to city centre by bus, fetch correct change!

Would highly recommend this hotel - lovely rooms, great staff and fabulous food. 15 minute walk into Edinburgh City Centre and car parking at the Hotel was a real bonus. Could not fault it.

Had an excellent stay. The room was realy nice and clean. We got a very good deal on the Deluxe Fourposter Bed room, the bed was very comfy and we slept well every night. The bar food was excellrnt and there is a special on each night which is from the restaurant menu but slightly cheaper. The hotel is within walking distance of the city centre and also the rugby ground if that's your sport. We wouldn't hesitate to go back and stay there again.

What a nice introduction to Scotland and Edinburgh. Clean and comfortable rooms, friendly and helpful staff. A nice walk or bus ride from the city centre, and very close to the haymarket station. The Stane bar was a great place to unwind at the end of the day, with a nice garden view, and the dinner and breakfast services were excellent. It was a warm and welcome 'home base' for our adventures, we will return soon hopefully.

We stayed here for 2 nights on our Mini Honeymoon. What a lovely hotel and lovely staff. From staying in various hotels over the last couple of years I think the hotel could make a few changes that would make residents that little more comfortable. i.e inclusion of robes, especially in 'Large Deluxe 4 Poster' room, I imagine that these types of rooms are for couples here on leisure trips, and a robe is a nice touch. Another suggestion would be a little bit of modernisation around technology, inclusion of an IPod docking station, upgrade the TV to digital (not seen a tv with 5 channels in many years.....).

I would really have liked to have tried the restaurant/bar for evening food, but unfortunately we had booked other restaurants-the menus looked lovely and the breakfasts were lovely.

All in all a lovely hotel but could do with some tweaks.

We found this hotel on expedia and were very pleased with what we got.
The Staff: Before we left I emailed the hotel to let them know it was our honeymoon and asked if they had any tips on romantic places for dinner or good tours to take. From that moment on the staff (most specifically Samantha) were incredibly attentive and very helpful. They helped us plan out our day trips so that they would be both economical in money and be the best use of our time.
The Hotel: Its in a pretty good spot. It's not right downtown but its really close, only about 15min on one bus (which allows you to get off in New Town if you want to shop, or Old town if you want to sightsee). Its also right on the Airlink bus line which means there is a direct root from the airport to almost right in front of the hotel. DON'T cab, it would be a huge rip off considering where this bus drops you off. We never tried the really pricey breakfast and instead chose to get coffee and pastries in the Haymarket (5-10min walk from hotel). Also, doors were thin and you could hear everything outside the door (sometime enough to disturb attempted sleeping in).
The room: So here is where my wife and I differ. I loved the room, her not so much. It was clean, the towels were replaced everyday...etc. However, there was a light out on the very narrow stairwell to the top floor and it was for lack of a better word "eerie". The room was also very "traditional" so the decor felt dated. The however was very large and quite comfortable. We saw some of the other rooms and I think its fair to say that you could end up with a room ranging from 3start to 5star.
In Summary: I would stay here again in a heartbeat and would recommend anyone to do the same (especially at the 165/night that we paid through expedia).

My wife and I stayed at Duthus Lodge, which is right next door, and went to the Dunstane House bar for dinner twice during our three-day stay. It was relaxed, lots of locals, friendly and a nice atmosphere. The service was a bit slow, but we quickly learned to relax and enjoy our time (unike the rushed pace of American restaurants that we're used to.) I even braved the haggis balls - and they were good.
