“Over priced, unfriendly staff but good location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 26, 2013

We arrived at the Parliment House Hotel early but the lady on the front desk, who was the nicest member of staff we encountered whilst there said that there might be a chance of early check in, come back in half an hour. Half an hour we came back and were given a room that was TINY. You could barely move around the bed, there were 5 hangers in the smallest wardrobe you have ever seen and one drawer. We complained to reception and they moved us to a bigger room. This was better! There was a bigger wardrobe, more room and one more drawer! Lack of storage is a major problem with this hotel. The room had a wonderful view and was always cleaned emacuably and the bathroom was lovely. The cleaning staff were very friendly and helpful but the reception staff were rude and not welcoming, never saying good morning or good evening. The restaurant attached to the hotel served excellent food but we were a little taken aback when they said they were full and couldn't fit us in with half the dining room empty. They managed to find us a table!
All in all, the hotel was in a perfect location for the fringe, very quiet and tucked away from the hustle and bustle but paying over £200 a night, which didn't include breakfast, it is nothing to write home about.

What a shame our memories of our visit are tarnished by a snooty I believe to be Manager and the older lady that showed her temper that I wanted her attention for a moment ( yes I saw you bang the file down and heard your comments).
The breakfast staff were great and a credit to the hotel very helpful and always smiling Thank you all.
The Hotel itself was very good the rooms were very good clean and well set out and the location was very good.
Parking is not available but you do have time on a single yellow line to unload although again Mr snooty gives the impression that you parking ticket is on it's way we saw not one traffic warden around the hotel in 2 days stay

The Parliament House Hotel is a short walk from the Waverly Train Station, which we got to on the bus from the airport, saving cab fare. The Hotel is nicely decorated and our room was spacious and quiet. The bathroom was large, with two sinks. The staff were polite and professional. The Hotel is within walking distance of most things you would want to see, and you can catch the bus to anywhere from Waverly Train Station. We walked to the Edinburgh Castle area daily which is a bit of a hike but certainly possible. The breakfast was a bit expensive for what you got, so we just popped into the Starbucks around the corner most mornings.

The location was very good so close to most of the sights. The hotel looks oldie worldie from the outside but our room was quite modern. Although we enjoyed our overnight stay I don't think it was worth the money my daughter paid. We had a meal in the Bistro which was very nice and the staff were very efficient but again I don't think it was value for money. We had A Lamb dish which was very tasty but very fat and the £3 pound they charged for the portion of chips(about ten) was a bit much. The breakfast was good plenty of choices to suit everybody.

In summary: comfortable, quiet rooms in a good city centre location. Less than helpful hotel staff, hotel difficult to navigate, and overpriced for the service and room.

The Parliament House Hotel is well situated - 5mins walk from Waverley Station, and 15mins from the Castle. It is down a quiet cobbled lane with very little traffic, and so enjoys a quiet location. The rooms were nicely decorated and the beds comfortable. A minibar and tea/coffee are available in the room. However, reception was not very welcoming nor accommodating, doing the bare minimal to make your stay welcoming. The rooms whilst comfortable got rather hot and the windows in the room itself did not open. For guests with a lot of luggage/with reduced mobility, some rooms are down a rather tortuous route (up a flight of stairs from reception, through a stepped corridor, then straight back down a spiral staircase again. Good fun but not so much for those who don't find it easy), so check with the hotel before you book to make sure your room is one of the ones which is easier to access. Ultimately the room was not worth the price we paid for it, but for the ease of location during the Fringe unfortunately the high prices are what you must pay.

Stayed here for a long weekend, arrived lunchtime and was able to check in. Location is ideal, short walk to the centre of town and the fringe. Rooms are comfortable and clean, my only gripe would be the pillows are not what they could be (personal preference). Staff are friendly and helpful. Plenty of choice for breakfast. There were a couple of minor niggles, but they were dealt with as expected.
Will stay here again!!

we arrived at 1.30pm and were able to check in straight away room nice and clean bed comfy towels white and thick and changed every day. The view wasnt much to write about it looked out on to a block of offices but it didnt spoil our opinion of the hotel. We only had breakfast there was good selection of juices, cereals, fruit and pastries then cooked breakfasts to order as much toast and coffee as we wanted the toast was hot and the coffee was good.We went on the royal yacht well worth a visit as was The Real Mary King's Close. We will go back to this hotel on our next trip to Edinburgh

Room Tip: room 402 didnt have a good view and the bathroom quite small but the bed was so comfy
