We found this hotel on the Internet by accident but what a find it turned out to be!!! We paid a middle of the range rate but received a service like no other. We were greeted as we got out of the taxi by a friendly, young, local chap who took our luggage from us. The receptionist was another local guy who was very helpful, nothing was too much trouble for him. The room was a reasonable size and was very clean only thing I could note was that the bulb had blown on the bedside lamp. (This was rectified very quickly). In past hotels we have had problems with breakfast but it went very smoothly here, again the friendness / efficentecy of the staff is very apparent. We chose to dine out as we were only in Edinburgh for the one night but on our next stay we will definately give the restaurant a try as it looks lovely! Overall we loved our stay, all the staff were fantastic and we have already booked for March next year!

My husband and I stayed at Channings for our Honeymoon weekend. Having read some recent reviews prior to our visit, we were a tad apprehensive. HOWEVER, our room was fabulous, the staff were very helpful and polite, and the overall experience was fantastic. Plenty of room in the restaurant at breakfast, which was served promptly. Our room was clean, and of a high standard and all requests were action straight away by staff who couldn't do enough for us. It makes me wonder that maybe previous bad reviewers were blowing things out of proportion. Do not be put off by the bad reviews. We would highly recommend Channings and will definatley be returning.

I relaxed the moment we checked into Channings. Lovely comfy decor, smart but cosy. The young man on reception was very welcoming, our room was lovely at the front of the hotel overlooking some gardens. We made coffee and sat at the table in the bay window of our room, heavenly.

The room was clean, the bed lovely and cosy with white linen and proper duvets. The breakfast was good, bit of a wait. Took about 15 minutes to walk into town, would not recommend for the less mobile guest. Parking was on street, fine when we arrived but packed by we checked out. I loved Channings and would stay again, but from other reviews would request a front room.

My wife and I stayed at the Channing's for a weekend break, the room was filthy (dusty), small and at the top of a small winding stair.
The meal in there restaurant at night was what they called a tasting menu which was a big disappointment for what they charged.
Would not recommend the Channing's
