We two coupels went to Edinburgh for 4 nights to explore this magnificent old city. We have chosen this hotel wishing to avoid big noisy centred hotels. What we had eventually - old, big, noisy and far from city centre. The first room number 50 was very small, probably a hundred years without updating, dusty and extremely noisy due to the thinest walls and squeaking floors. At least staff moved us to bigger room number 56 next day without questions. Probably it is usual request! Helpfullness and friendliness of the staff is the only truth on the comments!!! Breakfast in the restaurant was always the joke - very simple, low quality - nothing to write about, honestly.
The problem with the hotel in my opinion is the fact that staff doing their best at this hotel, but it is anyway out-of-date, trying to cover the early expenses by neglecting of refreshment in general - just making money.
Definitely not boutique - too big (50-60 rooms), definitely not 4 stars in every position, definitely it is not worth going so far from city centre!
Unlikely come back, maybe only overnight and with big discount:)
