We stayed 2 nights at this hotel 1st -3rd February 2014 and we found the staff extremely helpful & polite. We arrived early but our room was ready. We stayed in a basement room no 16 and it was spacious, comfortable & quiet with a huge bed and because the hotel is in a quiet area we slept very well .Breakfast was very good with a excellent selection.Only a 10 minute walk to Princess Street so this was not a problem for us

Room Tip: Although we did not have the view from room 16 it was still very nice & quiet

Lovely cosy reception with fire - perfect welcome from bitter Winter winds! Super friendly receptionist - very smiley, happy to give advice and even offered us a nice cup of tea when we were waiting to leave.

Room (on Shackleton floor) was stunning and huge. The stand alone bath was utter luxury!

Great value for money.

We stayed in the quest room this weekend, it was immaculate and just as in the pictures. Friendly staff, great food, warm rooms, cosy bar, cannot fault anything. Thank you channings for a lovely weekend!

We have just returned from a three night stay at Channings. The experience from start to finish was first class and faultless. Every member of staff we had the privilege to meet we're attentive, friendly, courteous and all seemed happy to be of service. All food services on offer were wonderful. We had the seven course taster menu on Friday, a three course meal in the restaurant on Saturday and a two course meal in the bar on Sunday evening so can honestly review the food offerings as wonderful. The bar in the evenings was a warm, inviting and a friendly place to have a drink with an extensive drinks selection. The cocktails were also very professionally presented and very tasty. The bar is also used by locals who were all friendly and chatty. We were so impressed with this hotel we have booked again for a few months time and for January 2015. The hotel is not in the centre of town but the fifteen minute walk to Princes Street is very pleasant and takes you past wonderful Georgian townhouses, wide cobbled streets and beautiful private communal gardens. I cannot recommend this hotel enough and I will be recommending it to friends and family. Many thanks to Jamie and every member of Channings wonderful staff for making our stay very pleasurable, comfortable and memorable.

Room Tip: The Shackleton suites are lovely.

First appearances were good with a nice fire burning in the foyer, the reception staff were very friendly and helpful, especially the young local woman who was on Saturday night who was chatty and gave us loads of good tips and advise on places to visit. The room was comfortable with a huge bed but best thing was the views from the huge bay window over the roof tops, (It is at top of a hill). After walking round all day in cold the bath was great and filled quickly. Breakfast was good standard breakfast. The only negative I could say was it was a long walk, about 20 minutes to Princes street and a lot more to old town, the buses are frequent and a day pass is £3.50 but drivers were not helpful make sure you get list of all buses as there is nothing to help you on bus stops unless you know numbers. Taxi from station was £8.50.
Visit the National Museum of Scotland if you get chance amazing place and all free.
Its a nice friendly hotel in an upmarket residential area, so no noise from cars and people.

Room Tip: We were in a standard room and it was good

The Hotel is located approximately 10 minutes from the main street in Edinburgh. The service we received was excellent with regards to travel guides, buss routes and the stay at the hotel in general. The only negative I can point out is that the beds were too short for people over 180 cm, and that the toilet did not flush. In terms of cost, we were very satisfied with the stay and can recommend this hotel to all our friends.

I stayed here for my hen weekend which was booked by my travel agent. When I looked it up online I noticed it was quite fancy and was a bit worried that we wouldn't fit in being a hen party of 16! That being said, we're not a particularly raucous group!! However when we arrived we were all made to feel really welcome and all the staff were lovely and all said hello to you if they encountered you in the hotel somewhere.
Rooms were really nice and beds very comfortable which is my main thing!!
The location is good although it does say on all the websites you can walk into town but we always got taxis as truthfully it would be a half an hour walk or more into town. The staff at reception were always really helpful with directions and ordered us taxis which always arrived within 5 minutes.
It's a wee bit of a maze of a hotel, lots of stairs and going up or downstairs! I liked it though - added a charm to the place. We sat outside in the sun terrace which was really nice and had plenty of tables and chairs. Luckily we were there in July so it was nice and sunny!
We only had breakfast here, no other meals. Had the full scottish breakfast and it certainly helped with the hangover!!
I liked the living room sort of area at reception - when we got back from one of the nights me and my friend sat here for agood hour chatting and eating our takeaway pizza!
Really nice and I'd stay here again.

Channings in Edinburgh is an informal, relaxed hotel with a very friendly approach. It occupies five Edwardian townhouses in Stockbridge, one of Edinburgh's most popular 'urban villages'.
