“Charming and affordable”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 4, 2013

Hotel was small but elegantly decorated. Located on a quiet street off the main avenues, and next to beautiful greeneries and gardens. Staff were courteous and were very accommodating to our every request. Breakfast was ok, the usual selection of fruits and baked goodies. All in all a very pleasant experience. Will definitely go back.

I've been in Edimburgh, in March, for the first time. My first choice's for an hotel, does not included Channings Hotel but, at that weekend, Scotland played against Wales, in rugby, and the other hotels were completly full. The travel agency recommend me the Channings Hotel and i liked it, i did like it very much. It's very cosy, the rooms are fair, the hotel seems a private house, because it's located in a residencial area, the people at the front desk are very kind and helpfull.
It is not in the center, but you can walk 20 minutes, or take a bus to the center. There are a lot of buses, it cost 1.40£ per person, ( a taxi is 6 or 7 £ ) and in 5 minutes you are in the middle of everything. I don't eat very much in the morning, but the breakfast can be the poorest thing in the hotel. We take a dinner one night at the hotel, and it was very good.
I recomend this hotel.

Stayed here for 3 nights in the week before Easter, booked purely based on looks and reviews on TA so thanks ladies and gentlemen for that.
Its a terrific hotel and whilst it might not be right in the centre (mile and a half away) its easily reachable using the excellent Lothian Bus service and its not that far to walk really (all downhill). Seems to be a few people complaining about the lights in the rooms, found that a bit daft to be honest. We had about 5 lamps all around and they worked a treat, its an old building which would be totally ruined by modern lighting anyway. The lamps did what was required and we were not in the room that much, we were out and about.
Room was very comfortable and while the shower is not a power shower, it cleans just as good and is very warm. Standard double (Room 54) has a massive bed which was very comfy and excellent tea and coffee making facilities (compared to others we stay in, they know who they are). Staff very friendly, on reception and in the breakfast room., The common areas are very cosy and the breakfast served in the conservatory was great. Cooked breakfast enjoyed by Mrs C whilst i went foraging for berries with me weetabox (three in one go).
Cant find anything to fault about the place, one of the best we've stayed in and a perfect fit for a few days in a great city.

I thoroughly enjoyed 4 nights at the Channings hotel and wil ldefinately be going back!

The rooms are well presented in great old style and are spotlessly clean, the staff are friendly and our bell boy offered a detailed description of the view from the room identifying points of interest and information to support a visit.

The breakfast is wide ranging and cooked very well, relaxed and at no rush.

The perfect place to base yourself whilst enjoying the great city!

We stayed here for 2 nights in March, and whilst searching through the Internet for days trying to find the right hotel for a good price, we came across The Channings hotel, which for £110 for 2 nights including breakfast you cannot complain considering The Jury's Inn wanted over £200 and not including breakfast. The rooms were nice and spacious and location was very quiet and you can jump on the bus from round the corner to the centre for £1.60, so location was pretty good. Hotel is quite small but offers everything you need. Would recommend because my partner is extremely fussy and she was pleased.

Just had a 2 night stay in this lovely hotel on our first visit to Edinburgh. The hotel is charming and the staff are lovely. We were welcomed at Reception by Mario who was very friendly and very informative about the places we should visit and how to get to them, he also recommended local restaurants although we ate in the hotel's restaurant on both evenings where the food was delicious and very good value for money. We were upgraded to a suite on arrival (I had mentioned I would be celebrating my birthday when booking on LateRooms.com) and the room was fabulous with the biggest bathroom we have ever seen and a lovely freestanding bath in which to soak aching limbs at the end of a long day's sightseeing. The hotel is probably a 10-15 minute walk into the city but if you don't mind this then we would certainly recommend it as a good place to stay when visiting this lovely city. We plan to visit again but only when the weather is considerably warmer!

Room Tip: We stayed in room 68 on the top floor which was lovely. The room was at the back of the hotel so vi...

Channings in Edinburgh is an informal, relaxed hotel with a very friendly approach. It occupies five Edwardian townhouses in Stockbridge, one of Edinburgh's most popular 'urban villages'. To suit its location slightly away from the city centre, Channings is a wonderfully quirky property which feels a bit like a Scottish country home, full of charming Victorian paintings, prints, books, furniture and memorabilia that owner Peter Taylor has collected over the years. ... more   less
