We stayed for 3 nights at the Knight Residence in Edinburgh in June and am happy to report that it lived up to its high rating on Tripadvisor. The suites are very roomy and well appointed. The location is excellent, allowing easy access by foot to all the attractions that Edinburgh has to offer. The service was very friendly and helpful. Free parking in the gated lot is very convenient. Also, the free internet worked great.

The only reservation one might have about the place is the couple of sex-oriented bars down the block. But the hotel is definitely not in a red light district and I didn't hear any complaints about the bars from my family...rather they said its just part of being downtown in a big city (e.g.we didn't feel at all concerned about our safety and there are a few other fine hotels nearby).

A more important issue is finding the place if you come by car. I made the mistake of trying merely to use the map provided by the hotel. This was difficult to use and driving in Edinburgh is tricky at best. So I strongly recommend getting a very detailed map of the area and/or use GPS!

  • Liked — Well equipped with lots of room
  • Disliked — Bar scene nearby

A little hard to find at first because of a building that was being torn down closed off the street to the front entrance, but with the help from some friendly locals we found the way to the back entrance. Hotel was very nice with a very accomidating staff. Great view of the castle from our room. We stayed at two other places while in Scotland and we all liked The Knight Residence the best. Parking available at the rear of the hotel. Gave us nice umbrellas for no rental fee while we were there. Sounds like a little thing, but it was raining for most of our stay in Edinburgh and we did not pack one.

  • Liked — The hotel was very nice, but the staff was the best, the view a close second.
  • Disliked — Three strip joints right by the place, but to be honest we went to one and we enjoyed it.

We booked a family vacation in Ediburgh in May at The Knight Residence in a two bedroom apartment. It was perfect for our family vacation. The apartment was roomy and very well equipped - both bedrooms were comfortable, the bathroom was large and supplied with nice shampoos, lotions, soaps, etc. The kitchen was fully equipped and the welcome basket was fabulous with cereals, jams/jellies, juices, milk, cookies, bread, butter. In the living room was the a large flat screen TV, DVD player and selection of movies. Additional movies were available in the lobby upon request. The staff was so very helpful and it seemed they would do anything to make our stay delightful. They even stored our luggage overnight when we took the two day Rabbies Loch Ness/Inverness tour; and, the luggage was already in our apartment when we returned from the tour. Other reviewers commented on the strip club on the corner, but this did not have any impact on our stay or ability to walk around Edinburgh safely. The location of The Knight Residence is wonderful, just two blocks from the base of Edinburgh Castle. Please note there are no restaurant facilities on site, as this hotel is more a collection of apartments with full facilities. I highly recommend this hotel.

This is a great place to stay. Parking at the rear (free and secure).
The apartment was clean tidy, spacious and well equiped.
As can be seen from the photos the kitchen has a dishwasher and washer dryer also with a portable tv with dvd

The living room has a decent size tv with cable, dvd and video player. In the room is a small selection of videos and music cds for the small cd and radio player.
The rooms have fitted large wardrobes, plenty of towels and bathrobes.

As stated by others the welcome pack was plentyful, milk bread, juices, cereals butter, jams teas coffee. Not the basket on the dining room picture that was over full with the items.

The concierge were excellent helping negotiate the one way system to park the car. The premises has a selection of dvds and videos and PS2 games for rent. They will even hire out a laptop for something like £5 a day with internet access (did not see that option until we left)

We booked this after reading the reviews on trip advisor and how right you all were, this deserves the ratings. Did see the lap dancing club, but we had our 10 year old son who never even noticed it and it did not impact in any way.

Want a 2 bedroomed apartment in Edinburgh city centre then this is the one, worth the money.

  • Liked — Location and car parking
  • Disliked — we all moan about paying too much but worth it nothing else

We were expecting something special here, having read all the glowing reviews on trip advisor, and we were not disappointed!

The apartments are a real home from home, we even had a Christmas tree!

Comfortably furnished and very well equipped, also in a great location.

There is not much more I can add to the previous reviewers' comments, other than to say we will definately be going back!
