We were very fortunate to have booked the Knight Residence for our stay in Edinburgh especially since we arrived late & with no luggage because it was lost by British Airways for the duration of our 6 night stay & remains lost at this time .

The one bedroom apartment was spacious, inviting, clean & had all the comforts of home & more. The flat screen TV was a bonus as was the welcome basket with cereals, bread, milk, butter & O.J. They provided everything that you would need even things that you would not expect to find in a vacation apartment. We are frequent travelers & the Knight Residence was by far our best vacation experience.

We walked to Edinburgh Castle for the tour & the Military Tattoo, The Grassmarket & The Royal Mile for restaurants & pubs, Princes Street for shopping & Waverley Bridge for the bus tours. In fact, other than the bus tour we walked everywhere from the Knight Residence. We felt completely safe coming back late at night even though there are lap dancing places close to the Residence. I am a 65 year old woman and did not feel the least bit intimidated by their presence. In fact all you see are the signs in the window...no big deal.

The concierge staff could not have been more helpful. We were without medication, toiletries, clothes & I broke my glasses. The staff directed us to all the nearest places to replace/repair these items. We are so grateful for their help...especially Charlie Brownlie & Kevin Drummond.

We enjoyed Deacon Brodies for a drink, Gordon's Trattoria for a nice Italian meal & Garfunkels for an inexpensive meal. They are all located on the Royal Mile.

We would not hesitate to stay at the Knight Residence in the future.

Non-smoking 2 bedroom apartment was great for our family of 4 including 2 college kids and price was reasonable by UK standards. Clean facilty with fully equipped kitchen including fresh milk in the refrigerator and a basket full of cereals and other breakfast foods included. The gentlemen at the reception desk were incredibly helpful and friendly. Secured on-site parking included. Location very convenient for tourist attractions/shopping/dining in city centre. Overall, it was one of our best choices for lodging on our 2 week UK trip, and I would highly recommend The Knight Residence.

Caveats: Although the kitchin contains a washer/dryer combo, I would suggest a laundromat if you need to wash clothes whilst there. We washed/dryed two loads of clothes and it literally took from dinner time to the wee hours of the morning. Also, beware that lap dances are available at the bar next door.

We stayed for 3 nights at the Knight Residence in Edinburgh in August 2006. Very nice place (although as mentioned in other reviews not the best location in terms of the strip clubs & lap dancing establishments) and very close to Grassmarket and the castle.

Our flights via British Airways were late so we didn't arrive at the Residence until after 11:00 p.m. Fortunately, our concierge stayed up until we arrived (I had e-mailed earlier that our original flight would be getting in at 9:50 p.m.) and showed us to our room. Unfortunately, our luggage didn't make it with us so we arrived with nothing but our carry-ons.

The apartment is clean and spacious. The bathroom is fully stocked (helpful when you don't have luggage) and the kitchen already had tea, coffee, bread for toast, an assortment of jellies, milk & orange juice in the refrigerator. Lots of amenities like the flat screen TV, washer/dryer in the kitchen (although very small it's good for washing underthings & socks) and a kitchen.

I cannot say enough about how kind the staff was during our stay. Our bags didn't arrive until late afternoon the next day so we went out to buy some extra underthings and socks (Marks & Spencers was a savior in this area - not too expensive) and when we returned, our bags were already in our room. The Residence does have a lift so getting to upper floors isn't a problem.

We found that most things were within walking distance. We ate at the Mussels and Steak Bar on Grassmarket (very good) and Fishers in the City (also very good) for dinners.

We would definitely stay here again!

My family and I just returned from a 2-week tour of the UK and Ireland and spent two nights at the Knight Residence in July. We couldn't have picked a more perfect hotel. After spending several hours in the car driving from Belfast with our three boys, we found the Knight Residence to be spacious, beautifully furnished, modern, and clean. The parking lot was completely secure and handy. The concierge on duty when we arrived, Christopher, went out of his way to show us around and made us feel right at home. The kids loved the three televisions (including the flat screen in the living room) and renting DVDs available near the front desk. Some other reviewers mentioned that the lap dancing bars nearby were a problem, but we didn't feel that way at all. On Saturday night after returning from dinner, we just made sure that we walked on the other side of the street with our two youngest kids (ages 10 and 6). No one bothered us. The location is actually perfect--just a 5 minute walk up the hill to the castle and the Royal Mile. I really recommend this hotel and will stay at it again next time we're in Edinburgh.

  • Tips/Secrets: — Visit the Edinburgh Dungeon (scary and fun) and go up to the castle at night--lots of people out, beautiful lights, etc.
