My review agrees with all the recent posts.

The location is a 20 minute walk from Haymarket & Waverley stations but close to Grassmarket & only a short stroll to the Royal Mile. Though in what seems like a seedy area on arrival (with lap dance bars), it never seemed that way - I heard no noise & saw few people hanging around on the evening, despite being there on a bank holiday weekend.

Parking is brilliant with a large secure car park with electronic gates at the back.

Staff couldn't be more helpful, showing you round the areas and leaving you with a starter pack. I've previously stayed at other aparthotels marked as 5* in Edinburgh & this if anything was better.
There is a Tesco Express on Earl Gray Street and a Sainsbury Local on Morrison Street for additional provisions (we got a large starter pack). For an excellent pub for an evening drink, try Cloisters around the corner on Brougham Street with 9 fast rotating (largely) Scottish beers available.

Finally the apartment.
I stayed at a 3-room apartment with friends & there was enough in the space for anyone. Flat Screen TV, cable TV, DVD player, video recorder, washing machine ... basically everything you have at home.
Its spacey & comfortable.
The only thing I could criticise was that the shower wasn't great in the en suite. But I survived this intact.

Don't hesitate to stay if you are thinking of it. You won't find a lot better in Edinburgh.

From start to finish an absolute pleasure:

Staff - genuinely kind and helpful. was on the line with us for about 10 minutes giving us directions until we made it through the gate. Explained in details all the features in the apartment and was happy to answer any questions we had.

Location - true as one reviewer noted, there is a lap dance club nearby. so???? didn't bother us at all and we were there with three kids ages 7, 5 and 2. the location is actually quite perfect to explore the city by foot (even with kids) and the fact we did not have to move the car from the hotel free parking was a huge advantage for us. the castle is a 5-10 minute walk, as is the park and princess street.

Apartment - could not be more tastefull, well kept and convenient. We had a two bedroom apartment - one with two twin beds to which they added a baby cot, and one double. both very nicely decorated with VERY comfortable beds and each with a LCD TV and DVD. the living room was of nice size with a large (probably 42 inch) LCD, stereo system (with speakers in the living room and bath) and comfortable furniture. They even aranged for a high chair for the little one in the dining area. the room was airy with a lot of light and looked brand new. the kitchen was fully stacked with all the amenities needed and more - micro, toaster, stove, kettle etc. Bathroom was large and comfortable with nice comfy bathrobes.

Others - on arrival we were provided with an excellent bfast basket that included many different cereals, milk, bread for toast, Jams, fruits and more. the hotel has an excellent selection of DVDs you can rent for 2 pounds, including a large selection of kids movies. Each kid got a cute little knight residence teddy bear and a nice activity pack with crayons etc.

basically the ideal family hotel. wish there was one of these everywhere we travel.

A truly lovely place to stay. Booked because of reviews on this site (at the time it was rated #1, have no idea why it's slipped down the rankings a bit) and it met all of our expectations. Our room overlooked the castle, it was spacious, very clean, had nice decor and was truly comfortable.

Particularly noteworthy features:
Speakers in the bathroom (I loved this)
Full sky package
Lots of breakfast items given which lasted our entire stay
Very, very comfy bed
Decor makes the apartment very cosy
View over the castle
The concierge (Joe, Charlie and Chris I think) were all just magnificent and so very helpful.

The location is brilliant - about 2 minutes walk to Grassmarket. Yes there are a couple of lapdancing bars in the area but they are fairly covert and present absolutely no threat to anybody walking past (and we walked past as two girls very late at night). I think possibly people who have complained about them in other reviews are quite prude (which is fair enough, but it really shouldn't put you off this lovely hotel).

A restaurant tip - Maxies Bistro is a lovely place for taking a long time over a lovely meal. It has no website but is a true gem.

Previous positive reviews all accurate.Very comfortable accommodation with clean, pleasant bedrooms (2) and a large living room with better than average seating. I would suggest a floor lamp for better reading light but the sconces and overhead compensate. The sofa bed couch is as comfortable as they go. Large bath and as many robes as beds are provided. A fully equipped kitchen which would allow cooking from scratch should you desire, and a table which seats four. The Tesco down the street has pre-packed curry dinners for two if you want a good, inexpensive alternative to the mediocre restaurants nearby. The only really decent restaurant in town is the Dubh Prais, Black Pot, across from the Radisson on 123b High Street. www.dubhpraisrestaurant.com. Don't be put off by the simple doorway to this basement restaurant. Superb service and food, good wine list. Reservations a must. We missed an opportunity to dine there again, wasting it on a mediocre meal at the Maison Bleue. (I saw my first course of mussels in garlic cream sauce the next day in the frozen food section of Jenner's food court) The second floor room was hot and overcrowded and the service indifferent. Edinburgh is interesting but a long weekend is sufficient to do what is worthwhile. Get to the castle early or wait in line for a very long time (or pre-book).

We just got back from a stay at the Knight residence where we booked a 2 bedroom apartment. While its true there are lapdance bars next door, they didnt affect us at all and we were there with an infant. The hotel is walking distance from the castle, grassmarket, etc. and there are lots of places to eat around the area. There is a cinema and supermarkets around the corner. The apartment itself was spacious, clean and smart. The staff could not have been more friendly. They set up our babys cot and left her a bag of baby toiletries. In the kitchen, they provided milk, cereal and biscuits. And when we left they gave us an easter egg. Its the little touches that count, and for this reason we will be returning to the Knight residence again!
