I booked a long term stay (16 nights) at the Glenora to attend a conference. I had booked a single room but since I was staying so long, the manager kindly upgraded me to a double, which was much appreciated. Staying at the Glenora for an extended time was a terrific experience.

Everything about this hotel was beautiful. I loved the modern and uncluttered decor. The breakfast was excellent. They supplied free broadband internet which was extremely easy to connect to and use. The only thing that would make this property even better is to have laundry facilities on site.

I had a great time staying here, and will return if I come back to Edinburgh, and would highly recommend this B&B to everyone.

The Glenora Hotel is an excellent base for all the sights that Edinburgh has to offer. It is spotlessly clean and beautifully furnished and extremely quiet too! The breakfast was wonderful and set us up for the day. My only gripe would be that we spent the weekend there and it was a very warm weekend and with no air conditioning the room was hot hot hot! So, book to stay at the Glenora Hotel, but if the weathers good.....take a fan!!!

We booked at the Glenora for a recent trip to Edinburgh based on the favorable comments on Trip Advisor. Unfortunately, we were quite disappointed. On the plus side, our room was quiet as we faced the back garden. The room was plain and the bathroom small, although updated. However, the bedroom furniture was very cheap and tacky, the small TV hung high up on the wall like in an early YMCA room and the overall impression was dismal. We did not want to stay for another night, which we had booked for 3 days later after a tour of Scotland. We then became the victim of the draconian cancellation policy (5 days in advance or you will be fully charged!!) since the proprietor did not rebook our room. Obviously, I would not recommend staying here.

Management response from Walton1, Manageress

We were very concerned to read this review of The Glenora Hotel. The main complaint seems to be the terms of our cancellation policy. We do make everyone aware of our cancellation policy at the time of booking in order to avoid this very situation. If a guest does cancel at short notice we make every effort to resell the room, but if we are unable to do that then we do ask for payment – after all, the room has been reserved for the guest and we may have turned away other enquiries. We understand that in this case the guests’ plans changed and they decided to leave Edinburgh earlier than anticipated and at that time it is true that our cancellation policy was used. It is unfortunate that this has coloured our guests’ view of The Glenora. In our defence we would say that we completely refurbished The Glenora in 2005, at that time equipping each room with new and very high quality hotel furniture – in no way could it be described as ‘cheap and tacky’. The rooms are decorated quite plainly as this is what was recommended to us by our interior designer who spent many hours choosing the colours and fabrics. We think that the result is tasteful, contemporary, and subtle but clearly it is not to everyone’s liking. A photograph of the very room in which these guests stayed is on our website as are numerous other photos showing the interior of The Glenora. In conclusion, we have had almost unanimous approval of our new décor and furniture and are ready to give a warm welcome to anyone visiting Edinburgh.

We just returned from 10 days in Scotland, the Glenora was our first place to stay. I picked it for the close location to the Haymarket Station...and it is just across the road. Although for first timers to the UK, everything looks the same, at first. We got off our bus from the airport and walked around and could not find it, but some really nice people showed us where it was. We checked in and got a room at the front of the building, which is nice for people watching!! The room was okay, it had a double and a single bed..the tv was tiny and only had 3 or 4 stations...the bathroom was very nice, small but nice, the upside is that it had a power shower. Breakfast was good. Our rate was 79 pounds per nite. One complaint would be...on our second nite, our daughter (who is going to school in Scotland) came to visit us. We went out for dinner and drinks, we asked her to stay with us instead of taking a bus all the way back to school. We were charged an additional 20 pounds!!! She did not eat or shower there and had only stayed for a few hours....I was a bit disappointed in that additional cost..live and learn..

We took my mother in law to Edinburgh for a birthday treat and had two lovely rooms, one single and one double (which was really a triple) From the moment we walked in and smelled the geranium aromatherapy oil burning, we knew that this was no ordinary place. The rooms are elegantly decorated (none of the usual florals and awful paintings) and the bathrooms spotless. Our rooms were at the back and were exceptionally quiet. Breakfast was good and wholesome, served by Morag herself or her very friendly helper (who wears great necklaces!) The location is superb (check out the modern stained glass windows in St. Mary's two minutes away and the Water of Leith walk practically on the doorstep) My mother in law enthused about the high ceilings and decor and declared that it was one of the nicest places she had stayed in - we totally agree and want to go back.
