My husband and I stayed in a superior room with a king sized bed and views over Leith harbour. Having read the reviews about the Hotel's breakfast being poor and slow we opted not to have breakfast but use the fridge in the room and take our own!
The room was nice, traditionally Scottish in decor, clean and very quiet. All the usual Mal branding was in evidence, which we like and as always they are not cheap but you know what your going to get - we've always had good qualiy rooms and service staying with them.
We ate in the restaurant and had good food and wine.I don't agree with the calculated 'discretionary' service charge so we just wiped that off and paid the difference and tipped the waiter direct.
We booked a taxi with the desk and they were helpful. As with other travellers it's cheaper to pick up a black cab which is easier in the centre of Edinburgh, than at the hotel out in Leith. Leith does have a michelin starred restaurant so if you can get into book you could eat there.
