“The best experience ever...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 6, 2013

Well the title says it all!, I booked a two night stay as a suprise for my fiance's 30th birthday between christmas and new year 2012, we stayed in another hotel for the first night and at the Prestonfield for the 2nd night, we stumbled across the Rhubarb restaurant the last time we visited Edinburgh and had a meal there, as soon as our taxi turned the corner into the long driveway we looked at each other and said WOW, we were blown away by our first experience of the Prestonfield, the food is divine and the overall dinning experience unforgetable with sumptuous opulent decor and furnishings, the whiskey room and the tapestry room are our personal favourites of the drawing rooms.
I booked the owners suite with it being a special occasion, rang the hotel to advise that it was a suprise and not to mention I had booked a suite when we checked in, just to add to the shock factor when we got to our room, the hotel obliged and she got the shock of her life when we were shown to our room, so much so she couldn't speak for over an hour she was that blown away with it!!!, if you've got a special anniversary/birthday and can afford to fork out just shy of £300 for 1 night then do it, you won't be dissapointed the room was just magnificent with all the opulence you could ask for, incredibly romantic with a huge bath for two, champagne on ice waiting for you in the room on arrival (inc in the price), heated bathroom floor with different coloured lighting, classic FM playing softly in the background of the bedroom (which was just stunning) with ostrich plume cushions etc, there is also a seperate lounge with pictures of famous people who have stayed in this suite, (Sean Connery, American presidents etc). Once my fiance got over the shock of the sheer beauty of the room I informed her I had arranged private dinning in the salon privee, which is like a royal box which you pass on the stone staircase up to the suite and over looks the grounds, again it was incredibly romantic and didn't cost any extra as you can probably guess she was again gobsmacked and reduced to tears!, food and service again was 1st class, special mention to Brian for his attentiveness and his vast knowledge, he really made our night very special. My other half can recommend the eggs benedict for breakfast, but whatever you have will be fabulous (if your a whiskey lover like me then you will be in your element), we couldn't stop talking about the Prestonfield for weeks and weeks after, and still talk about it now, we took loads of pictures of the room and a video, will get round to uploading them soon. Thanks Prestonfield for the best hotel experience ever

Room Tip: Owners suite if you can afford to spoil yourselves!!!

Just spent a lovely afternoon at Prestonfield House enjoying their wonderful Afternoon Tea. We received a warm welcome and were taken to The Leather Room where we remained for a good few hours. Excellent value for money, lovely selection of sandwiches, cakes and teas. We will be back!

Our friends got married at the stables, prestonfield in March. I was a bit apprehensive that the ceremony, meal and reception was in the same room all day .....but. It was fab, humanist ceremony, nice food, great and the service was seamless all day, they do functions as well there so cant wait for my next visit!

I was staying here Saturday nite just passed this is my 4th time at this lovely hotel and it always tick all the boxes .
Firstly I would like to praise the new head of concierge a really nice down to earth guy and a credit to the hotel. Always very helpfull and makes sure you get looked after.
Bryan was the other star running about the hotel making sure everyone had a drink , he done a great job and went the extra mile just what a hotel like this needs.
Breakfast was ace again good solid Scottish breakfast just what you need to start the day .
Looking forward to my next stay already .

The first thing that crossed my mind when I entered the Prestonfield was a big 'uh-oh'. You see I'd previously stayed in a few swathed-in-velvet Inns, Castles, and Manor homes mostly in Ireland, in all cases where a 3 star hotel is thinly masquerading as 5 star hotel under the guise of flocked wallpaper. Worry not! The Prestonfield was first class all the way. The staff was top notch, courteous, accommodating, and friendly. They were attentive of my booking requests (soaking tub, king bed etc.), which was brilliant considering they had two weddings and many of the House's rooms were booked to guests of the weddings over the weekend. We were tucked away in a room on the first floor which meant we never felt like we were party crashing - or rather the weddings weren't vacation crashing. There was, however, a reception in a room next door to ours on the last night which got a bit rowdy, it wasn't too bothersome. I'd suggest that if you were to book on a weekend and were the early to bed type - request a room away from the rooms which cater to functions.

We also ate in the restaurant twice, which was really great, very inventive with mostly local ingredients, as good as you'd expect from a renowned restauranteur whose opened his own boutique hotel. The grounds were a bit smaller than we'd expected and it was so cold this past weekend, but we enjoyed a walk around them, Arthur's Seat in the background makes for a really stunning landscape.

Prestonfield does have that posh little inn in the country feel, but it's the little touches...like the tea in the fire-lit tapestry room, turndown service with champagne, bottled water and petit fours, and the staff's attentiveness that really makes this hotel stand out.

I wanted to have a small, but special family celebration lunch for my 60th birthday, and from the moment I called the hotel, everything was made very easy, from arranging a small reception room, to agreeing a very reasonable price to hire a private dining area. We were welcomed warmly, and shown to The Leather Room, where we were served our champagne by the log fire, and then taken to the Stuart Room for our meal. Both rooms provided a very grand, but warm backdrop, setting the scene for a very special day. There was a wedding in the hotel at the same time, but this was not at all intrusive, as our staff member very discreetly ensured that the door was closed, so that no noise infiltrated our little party and the two events remained separate.
Food and wines were excellent, with a good menu choice, and staff were quietly attentive, anticipating and meeting our requests pleasantly and efficiently.
During a very convivial meal, we all enjoyed the occasional glimpses we had of the peacocks in the grounds outside, and it is testament to the overall atmosphere of the day that no-one was in a hurry to leave!
Highly recommended for a very memorable and special celebration venue.

My boyfriend treated me to night at Prestonfield for my birthday in December and I absolutely loved it. The location is brilliant - 10 minutes away from the City Centre by car, but in a nice, quiet residential area in the shadow of Arthur's Seat.

The hotel itself is beautiful, with amazing decor and furnishings. It feels very special! Our room was one of the standard "deluxe" rooms and it was large and spacious. The decor was something else - all dark colours and plush fabrics. It might be a little overwhelming for some, but I loved it. The bed was large and very comfortable and we had a brilliant sleep. The room was equipped with a large TV, bathrobes and slippers and was set with fruit, cookies and chocolate for our arrival. The turn down service provided water beside our bed in the evening.

We ate dinner in the restaurant and it was beautifully presented and very good value for money we felt. The staff were knowledgable and attentive, without being over-the-top or pushy. We enjoyed after dinner drinks and petit fours in the tapestry room after our meal and that topped off a brilliant meal. Breakfast was equally as special as dinner with massive plates of Scottish fayre - too much for us but highly recommended.

All of the staff we met were helpful and friendly and seemed genuinely keen to ensure that we had an enjoyable stay. The best thing, in my opinion, about Prestonfield is the atmosphere that the staff create. It feels special and luxurious, but never pretentious or pompous.

Top class - highly recommended for a romantic experience!
