As regards location, it doesn't get much better than this in the heart of the old town. I've normally stayed at the Balmoral or the George in what's called the 'new' town - which means the two hundred year old bit of the city as opposed to the five hundred year old bit. The building is in the old Edinburgh style and won't fail to impress - though maybe scrubbed up a bit too much. Some disappointments though. I booked the hotel because it had a swimming pool and as happens so often in the UK, it wasn't available. I was advised to go to a nearby sports centre - no thanks. The rooms were spacious but lacked a wow factor, decor a bit tired - think the Meridien ten years ago. There is internet access but a very limited range of TV channels - mainly sport and no news. Breakfast was crazily overpriced - you'd have to eat all the egg and bacon on offer to justify the price. Service was friendly enough and the staff were helpful. The bar is convenient but the restaurant looks like a low class American diner - horrible low seating. So, I'd go again but things could be that much better.

We have just returned from spending 2 nights at this hotel and fully agree with the other reviews praising it. The location is ideal and rooms are spacious, modern and quiet !As mentioned by other reviewers those overlooking the Royal Mile are triple glazed so that it is sometimes difficult to believe that you are in the middle of a busy city.

We found the reception staff to be helpful and genuinely friendly
( you can tell when it is forced!) -perhaps due to the fact that they were Eastern European? Not to denigate the local hotel staff but we have found in our travels that they can become blase in their dealings with guests.

The only slight niggle is the cost of the breakfast if you are room only. We did not think it was worth £15.

We would definitely return.

The location of this hotel is a major advantage to any visitor wanting to see the city. As well as being in the middle of the royal mile, a taxi rank outside ensures that if you don't fancy a stroll to your destination you have an available 24hr service

On check in the staff were polite and helpful, the reception area was fresh and clean. The room was well presented and from the fifth floor we had a view of the coast and the mountains. The room was very clean and the power shower was great.

The leisure facilities leave a bit to be desired here. The 10 metre pool was closed for filter repair on one of the days but I didn't feel as if I was missing much anyway. My wife had an aromatherapy facial there and was pretty impressed by this.

Breakfast in the hotel is about 3 times more expensive than elsewhere in the vicinity. Not sure if it is worth the money as we went out each morning. McGregors is about 50 metres up the road (turn left out of the hotel) also, the filling station opposite to this serve a good breakfast at a reasonable price.

Back to the positives, the bar here (itchycoo) is nice and great for a daytime beer. There was a reasonable crowd at night similar to anywhere on the royal mile.

The castle is about a 10-15 minute walk from the hotel and in the opposite direction is Holyrood Palace. Both good to see. The best option is probably to head to Waverly bridge (10min walk) and do the bus tour. It costs £9 but you get a good feel for the history.

At night the hotel is very quiet despite being central in a busy city. This is a great hotel in a grewat place and if I was going back would look to book here again.

We found a couple of nice bars and restaurants while here: Albanach across from the hotel to the left on the corner is a nice bar that does some nice food. The Living Room on George St is a nice restaurant with a piano player and is great if you like somewhere less stuffy and there is a good atmosphere here.

A 2 night stay in a Business room at £175 per night. The hotel is clean, well-presented and superbly located. It is contemporary and 'feel-good'.

I paid extra for the business room, NOT worth it. The room could only have been marginally larger plus some nic-nacs like a Nespresso coffee machine, and inclusive breakfast but not £40 worth.

The staff were generally fine though some of the staff in the breakfast room appeared to be there under sufferance.

For those in a standard room - beware - the cooked breakfast costs £15... there is a cafe on the corner of the street which would surely be cheaper.

Would try Scotsmans or Balmoral next time.

I recently spent a week in Edinburgh and stayed at the Radisson and thought it was a great hotel. The best thing about the hotel is the location. It is situated about half way on the Royal Mile with Edinburgh Castle on one end, Holyrood Palace on the other and about a 5-10 minuted walk to Waverly Station and Princes Street Gardens.

The hotel itself is modern with fairly decent sized rooms (for European standards). The rooms were very clean and very quite even though there were two bars below our windows that didn't close till 3am (we never heard them and that was nice). The only thing to get used to is the fact that the beds have duvet covers instead of sheets and blankets that American's are used to, but if you don't like them you can call down to the front desk and request a sheet and blanket.

The hotel staff was very nice (housekeeping always said good morning to us in the halls). Breakfast is included with the price of some rooms so find out if you room includes it or not before going down in the moring otherwise you have to pay for it. The resturant located next to the lobby (Itchycoo) is wonderful. They have excellent drinks as well as desserts (my recomendation is the Pick Three where you get small samples of three different items).

All in all this was a great hotel to stay at while in Edinburgh. I would definitely stay here again as wells as recomend it to anyone. If it is booked when you are in Edinburgh, try the Bank Hotel next door and The Carlton down the street for the same great location as the Radisson. Enjoy :)
